The Fiocchi Defense Limited Special Run 12 Gauge 2.75″ 00 Buck Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition
12EX00BK 48% Off promises to be a potent solution for home defense. This ammunition, manufactured by Fiocchi, boasts nine 00 buck pellets packed into a 2.75″ shell, delivering a claimed muzzle velocity of 1,250 ft/s. I was intrigued by the “Limited Special Run” aspect and the promise of reliable stopping power at a reasonable price, especially with the advertised discount.
My primary need was a reliable and effective buckshot load for my home defense shotgun. I’ve always believed in being prepared, and having dependable ammunition is paramount. I had read reviews praising Fiocchi’s consistent quality, so I decided to give this particular offering a try.
Upon receiving the ammunition, I immediately noted the sturdy packaging and the clean, consistent appearance of the shells. They felt well-made, and the crimps were uniform, a promising sign of quality control. The weight felt appropriate for a 2.75″ 00 buck load, and the brass heads looked clean and corrosion-free.
I’ve used Federal Premium 00 Buck and Remington Express 00 Buck in the past. I chose the Fiocchi primarily due to the lower price point and the special run designation, hoping for a good balance of performance and value. I was cautiously optimistic, hoping it would live up to the hype and perform reliably in my shotgun.
My first impression was one of anticipation mixed with a touch of skepticism. The discount made it appealing, but I was eager to see if it delivered on its promise of reliable performance. I hoped it would prove to be a cost-effective and dependable option for home defense.
Real-World Testing: Putting **Fiocchi Defense Limited Special Run 12 Gauge 2.75″ 00 Buck Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition

First Use Experience
I tested the Fiocchi Defense Limited Special Run 12 Gauge 2.75″ 00 Buck Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition at my local shooting range. I used my Mossberg 500 pump-action shotgun at distances of 7, 15, and 25 yards. I wanted to assess its pattern density and felt recoil at typical home defense ranges.
The weather was clear and dry, with a slight breeze. These conditions didn’t significantly affect the ammunition’s performance. The shells loaded smoothly and ejected cleanly.
The Fiocchi buckshot felt manageable in terms of recoil, slightly less than some of the heavier loads I’ve used. I did not need any specific time to get used to it.
The initial patterns at 7 yards were very tight, essentially creating one large hole in the target. At 15 yards, the pattern began to open up, but still maintained a good grouping. At 25 yards, there was noticeable spread, with a few pellets straying outside the vital zone on a standard silhouette target.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months and approximately 100 rounds, the Fiocchi Defense Limited Special Run 12 Gauge 2.75″ 00 Buck Shotgun Buckshot Ammunition has held up well. I have experienced no malfunctions or failures to eject. The shells have consistently performed as expected.
I’ve observed no significant signs of wear and tear on the remaining rounds. They have been stored in a cool, dry environment. I did not need much in the way of maintenance and care.
Compared to my previous experiences with Federal and Remington buckshot, the Fiocchi offers a similar level of performance at a lower cost. The recoil is comparable, and the patterns are consistent. It seems to strike a good balance between affordability and reliability.
