First Impressions of Faxon Firearms Match Series Flame Fluting Glock Gen 5 9mm Threaded Pistol Barrel
The Faxon Firearms Match Series Flame Fluting Glock Gen 5 9mm Threaded Pistol Barrel promises enhanced accuracy and suppressor compatibility for Glock 17 Gen 5 owners. As someone who has spent over a decade tinkering with and testing tactical gear, especially upgrades for Glock pistols, I was eager to see if this barrel lived up to the hype. The combination of match-grade precision and eye-catching aesthetics immediately piqued my interest.
My Glock 17 Gen 5 has been a trusted companion for years, primarily used for range practice and as a home defense weapon. I was looking for a barrel upgrade that would improve its accuracy potential and allow me to easily mount a suppressor. A threaded barrel was the obvious answer, and the Faxon name carries a reputation for quality.
Unboxing the Faxon barrel, I was immediately impressed by the fit and finish. The stainless steel was flawlessly machined, and the flame fluting gave it a distinct, aggressive look. The weight felt comparable to the factory barrel, and the threads were cleanly cut and ready for a suppressor.
Compared to a standard Glock OEM barrel and a cheaper aftermarket threaded barrel I had previously experimented with, the Faxon stood out in terms of perceived quality. The OEM barrel is functional but lacks any performance-enhancing features. The budget aftermarket barrel, while threaded, exhibited noticeable tool marks and a looser fit. The Faxon barrel appeared to be a significant step up in terms of material and craftsmanship.
My initial impression was overwhelmingly positive. The Faxon Firearms Match Series Flame Fluting Glock Gen 5 9mm Threaded Pistol Barrel seemed to be a well-made, high-quality upgrade that could potentially unlock new levels of accuracy and versatility for my Glock 17. I was excited to head to the range and see how it performed.
Real-World Testing: Putting Faxon Firearms Match Series Flame Fluting Glock Gen 5 9mm Threaded Pistol Barrel to the Test
First Use Experience
My first range trip with the Faxon Firearms Match Series Flame Fluting Glock Gen 5 9mm Threaded Pistol Barrel was at an outdoor range with distances out to 50 yards. I tested the barrel with a variety of 9mm ammunition, including 115-grain FMJ, 124-grain JHP, and 147-grain subsonic rounds for suppressor use. The weather was sunny and dry, providing ideal shooting conditions.
The barrel dropped into my Glock 17 Gen 5 slide with no fitting required, which was a relief. I immediately noticed a slight improvement in accuracy, particularly at longer distances. The tighter tolerances seemed to contribute to more consistent groupings.
I did experience one minor hiccup: a single light primer strike with the 147-grain subsonic ammo while using a suppressor. Re-chambering the round fired it on the second attempt. I attributed this to a potential break-in period and the added backpressure from the suppressor.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several hundred rounds and multiple range sessions, the Faxon Firearms Match Series Flame Fluting Glock Gen 5 9mm Threaded Pistol Barrel has proven to be a reliable and accurate upgrade. There are no signs of significant wear and tear. Cleaning the barrel is straightforward, and it wipes clean easily after each shooting session.
Maintenance is simple, involving just a standard cleaning rod, bore brush, and solvent. Regular lubrication of the barrel locking surfaces keeps it running smoothly. Compared to my previous experiences with the stock barrel, the Faxon barrel consistently delivers tighter groupings and more predictable performance.
The light primer strike issue disappeared after the first few magazines of subsonic ammo. It cycles all types of ammunition without issue now. The Faxon barrel definitely outperforms the original Glock barrel in terms of accuracy and the ability to reliably use a suppressor.
