First Impressions of Favorite Pro Series Casting Rod, Medium-Heavy 1 Piece
As an experienced outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve spent countless hours on the water, testing and evaluating fishing gear from various manufacturers. The Favorite Pro Series Casting Rod, Medium-Heavy 1 Piece, caught my attention with its promise of tour-level performance and Favorite Fishing’s reputation for quality at a competitive price point. Could this rod deliver the sensitivity, power, and durability needed to handle serious fishing conditions?
I needed a rod that could reliably handle a variety of techniques, from throwing crankbaits and spinnerbaits to pitching jigs and Texas rigs. The Medium-Heavy power and Moderate Fast action of the Favorite Pro Series seemed like it could fill that role. I was also looking for a one-piece rod for increased sensitivity and power transmission.
Upon unboxing, the rod presented a sleek and modern aesthetic. The EVA handle felt comfortable in my hand, and the overall weight seemed balanced. Compared to my G. Loomis GLX and Shimano Curado rods, the Favorite Pro Series felt slightly heavier, but still well-balanced.
My initial impression was cautiously optimistic. I was eager to get it out on the water and see how it performed under real fishing conditions, but more to come. The price tag of $149.99 positioned it as a mid-range option, and I hoped it would punch above its weight class.
Real-World Testing: Putting Favorite Pro Series Casting Rod, Medium-Heavy 1 Piece to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the Favorite Pro Series Casting Rod, Medium-Heavy 1 Piece on a local reservoir known for its largemouth bass population. The day was overcast, with a slight breeze and a water temperature around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. I paired the rod with a Shimano Curado DC reel and 12-pound fluorocarbon line.
The rod performed well casting both crankbaits and Texas-rigged worms. The Moderate Fast action provided excellent casting distance and accuracy. I immediately noticed the rod’s sensitivity when dragging a worm across the bottom, feeling subtle changes in the terrain.
There were no major issues during the first outing, but I did find the handle to be a bit slick when wet. This slickness became noticeable when handling a fish, making it slightly harder to get a firm grip.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Favorite Pro Series Casting Rod, Medium-Heavy 1 Piece has proven to be a reliable and versatile tool. I’ve used it in various conditions, including hot summer days, chilly autumn mornings, and even during light rain. The rod has held up well to repeated use and shows no signs of structural weakness.
The finish on the rod has remained intact, with no noticeable scratches or fading. Cleaning is easy, requiring just a wipe down with a damp cloth. Compared to some of my more expensive rods, the Favorite Pro Series requires less meticulous care and attention, making it a great option for everyday use.
While the rod performs admirably, I’ve noticed that the EVA handle has started to show slight signs of wear, with some minor compression in high-use areas. Still, it continues to outperform similarly priced rods from other brands in terms of sensitivity and overall fishability.
