First Impressions of Excalibur Assassin Extreme Crossbow Package
The Excalibur Assassin Extreme Crossbow Package promises top-tier performance for serious crossbow hunters. This package, from the well-respected Excalibur brand, boasts features like the Charger crank system for silent cocking and speeds up to 400 FPS, suggesting a powerful and user-friendly experience.
My aging compound bow was becoming increasingly difficult to draw, and I needed a solution that offered both power and ease of use for upcoming deer season. I was specifically looking for a crossbow with an integrated crank system for effortless cocking, as well as proven accuracy at longer ranges.
Unboxing the Excalibur Assassin Extreme Crossbow Package revealed a rugged, well-built machine. The FDE (Flat Dark Earth) finish gives it a tactical look, and the overall feel is substantial without being overly heavy. The Charger crank system immediately caught my eye as a testament to the thoughtful design.
I considered the TenPoint Stealth NXT and the Ravin R26, both popular high-end crossbows. However, the Excalibur’s reputation for reliability and its simplified recurve design appealed to me more than the more complex compound designs of the others. The Excalibur’s reputation for ease of maintenance was also a major deciding factor.
My initial reaction was one of excitement tempered with respect for the weapon’s power. The Excalibur Assassin Extreme Crossbow Package clearly isn’t a toy, and I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype.

Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, including multiple trips to the range and practice sessions in my backyard, the Excalibur Assassin Extreme Crossbow Package has proven to be exceptionally reliable. The FDE finish has held up well, showing no noticeable wear and tear despite some accidental bumps and scrapes.
Maintenance is surprisingly simple; a quick wipe-down after each use is generally sufficient. Compared to my old compound bow, which required constant tuning and adjustments, the Excalibur Assassin Extreme Crossbow Package is a breeze to maintain.
