Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic Review

First Impressions of Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic

The Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic promises to be a potent attractant for deer, blending the established appeal of Deer Cane with the added allure of molasses. Marketed by Evolved Habitats as a premium formulation, this product comes in a 4.5 lb bag of concentrated mix, a time-release block, and a ready-to-use liquid. Its claim to fame is drawing deer in and keeping them coming back, making it an exciting option for hunters looking to enhance their chances of success.

I sought out the Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic to address a consistent issue I was experiencing in my hunting area: low deer visitation rates. My trail cameras indicated that while deer were present, they weren’t lingering or returning frequently to my established mineral sites. I needed something that would not only attract them initially but also keep them coming back for more.

Upon opening the bag, the aroma was noticeably sweet, with a strong molasses scent complementing the earthy mineral smell. The texture was that of a fine powder, which seemed promising for even distribution and quick absorption into the ground. Initial build quality seemed good, as it came in a sturdy bag.

I considered other deer attractants, but the inclusion of molasses in the Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic stood out, as I suspected the added sweetness would be particularly appealing. Compared to a standard mineral lick or corn-based attractants, I hoped the molasses would provide a unique and irresistible draw. I ultimately chose this because molasses is a powerful attractant.

My initial impression was definitely positive; the smell alone suggested a high level of palatability. I was excited to see if it would live up to its claims and transform my hunting site into a deer magnet. I had a good feeling about this product.

Real-World Testing: Putting Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic in a heavily wooded area on the edge of a soybean field, a location known for deer activity but lacking consistent visitation. I applied the powder directly to the ground, creating a mineral site approximately 4 feet in diameter. The application was easy, and the powder readily soaked into the soil after a light rain.

The first few days after application were relatively quiet, but by the fourth day, trail camera footage showed a significant increase in deer activity at the site. Deer of all ages and sizes were consistently visiting the lick, often spending considerable time there. There were no issues initially.

The most surprising aspect was the immediate interest the deer showed; they seemed to instinctively know the lick was there. I was impressed by the immediate action.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of monitoring, the Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic continued to draw deer to the site consistently. The lick became a focal point of activity, with deer visiting multiple times a day. There was a steady stream of deer activity.

The powder formula held up well even after heavy rains, though the molasses scent seemed to diminish slightly over time. There were no visible signs of wear and tear, although the lick itself naturally dissipated as deer consumed it. I did have to replenish the lick once after about 6 weeks, due to rain.

Maintenance was minimal, primarily involving occasional checks to ensure the lick remained active and replenishing it as needed. Compared to previous experiences with standard mineral licks, the Evolved Habitats Deer Cane Black Magic noticeably outperformed them in terms of attraction speed and consistency. It worked great, and I was happy with it.
