Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb Review

The Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb Made a Bold First Impression

The world of deer attractants is saturated with promises of trophy bucks and consistent trail camera activity. Evolved, a name synonymous with innovative hunting products, throws its hat into the ring with the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb. This product claims to be so addictive, it should be illegal, packed with vitamins and minerals to benefit the deer herd, and infused with an irresistible molasses and apple aroma. I needed something to maintain deer activity around a new stand location during the late season, and this product’s nutritional claims and potent scent profile piqued my interest.

Upon receiving the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb, I was immediately struck by the simplicity of the packaging: a no-frills bag containing a solid, five-pound block. The initial scent was powerful – a sweet, almost artificial apple mixed with a strong, earthy molasses odor. It certainly didn’t smell subtle! Other attractants I’ve used often focus purely on scent; this one emphasizes both aroma and nutritional value.

Compared to granular mineral attractants I’ve used in the past, like Redmond Hunt’s Red Trace Mineral Salt, the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb offers a different application method. The Redmond product is scattered, while this is designed as a pour-over block. I chose this product over others, hoping the block form would prolong its effectiveness and reduce waste from rain and scavenging animals. My initial impression was cautiously optimistic; the strong scent was promising, but the real test would be deer response.

Real-World Testing: Putting Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb in a wooded area adjacent to a soybean field during the late deer season in early January. The ground was frozen in patches, and a light dusting of snow covered the area. I selected a relatively secluded spot about 20 yards from a well-used deer trail and positioned a trail camera to monitor activity.

I used a small shovel to create a shallow depression and then placed the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb block on top. I poured a small amount of water over the block to initiate the “pour-over” effect, allowing the sweet, mineral-rich liquid to seep into the soil. The smell intensified, carrying noticeably in the cold air. The ease of use was excellent – no mixing or preparation required. Within 24 hours, the trail camera captured images of deer investigating the site.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of use, the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb block gradually diminished in size. The block remained effective even after multiple freeze-thaw cycles, although the scent intensity lessened over time. I did notice that squirrels and raccoons were also attracted to the site, sometimes competing with the deer.

The durability of the block was decent, though portions crumbled and dissolved with repeated exposure to rain and melting snow. Compared to previous experiences with granular attractants that quickly wash away, the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb offered a more sustained attraction. However, it did not drastically outperform or disappoint compared to my baseline expectation.

Performance & Functionality

The Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb performs adequately in attracting deer to a designated area. The molasses and apple scent is indeed potent and draws deer in, especially when initially applied. The block form offers a longer-lasting alternative to granular attractants, but it is susceptible to weathering and consumption by non-target species.

While the product attracts deer, the “addictive” claim feels exaggerated; deer visited the site regularly but didn’t exhibit any unusual or obsessive behavior. There are no glaring weaknesses, but the performance is more akin to a reliable attractant rather than a revolutionary one. It meets expectations but does not exceed them by a large margin.

Design & Ergonomics

The block design of the Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb is straightforward and easy to use. The product’s weight makes it portable enough for hunters to carry into remote locations. The material composition is relatively dense, contributing to the block’s longevity, though it’s not impervious to environmental factors.

There’s virtually no learning curve involved; simply place the block and let nature take its course. The ease of use is a significant advantage, particularly for those who prefer quick and simple application methods.

Durability & Maintenance

The Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb is reasonably durable, but its longevity depends on environmental conditions. Expect the block to last several weeks to a month, depending on rainfall and the amount of animal activity. Minimal maintenance is required; simply replenish as needed.

There are no repair options, as the product is designed for single-use. The low-maintenance aspect is a significant advantage for hunters who prefer a hands-off approach.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb doesn’t come with any specific accessories. The most common customization involves adding trail cameras to monitor deer activity around the attractant site. The product is compatible with any standard trail camera setup and requires no specific modifications.

Who Should Buy Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb?

The Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb is perfect for hunters looking for an easy-to-use and affordable deer attractant. It’s also suitable for landowners who want to provide supplemental minerals to improve the health of their local deer herd. Casual campers or wildlife enthusiasts could also use this to observe deer behavior in a controlled setting.

Those seeking highly selective attractants that target only deer should skip this product due to the potential for attracting other animals. Hunters in areas with heavy rainfall might find granular options or rain shields more effective. A must-have accessory is a reliable trail camera to monitor deer activity.

Conclusion on Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb

The Evolved Booger Sugar / Apple / 5lb is a decent deer attractant with a focus on ease of use and providing essential minerals. The molasses and apple scent is effective in drawing deer, and the block form offers a sustained release compared to granular alternatives. However, the “addictive” claim is an exaggeration, and the product is susceptible to weathering and consumption by non-target species.

At $6.99, the price is justified for the convenience and potential benefits. I would personally recommend it as a supplementary attractant, particularly in areas with moderate rainfall and diverse wildlife. Consider it a reliable tool in your hunting arsenal, not a magic bullet. Go ahead and give it a try; it might just sweeten the deal on your next hunt.
