Let’s Talk About Evolution Gun Works AR Bag Rider, Front Only
The Evolution Gun Works (EGW) AR Bag Rider, Front Only is a simple but potentially crucial piece of equipment for any AR platform shooter looking for increased stability and precision. EGW, known for their precision-machined firearm components, aims to offer a cost-effective solution for improving accuracy when shooting from supported positions. I’ve always been a proponent of maximizing accuracy, and I was particularly interested in whether this simple addition could provide a significant improvement without the need for more elaborate (and expensive) bipods or rests.
My quest for a reliable AR bag rider stemmed from a frustrating series of range sessions. I consistently struggled to maintain a stable shooting platform using various bags and improvised rests. The EGW AR Bag Rider, Front Only presented itself as a straightforward, dedicated solution for improving stability with an existing shooting bag, and at a reasonable price point.
Upon unboxing the EGW AR Bag Rider, Front Only, I was immediately struck by its simplicity. The black delrin plastic felt solid and smooth, devoid of any sharp edges or imperfections. Its compact size and light weight were also immediately apparent, promising minimal impact on the rifle’s overall balance.
I considered several other options, including adjustable bipods and more complex front rests. I ultimately chose the EGW because of its simplicity, lower profile, and affordability, betting that it would be a good balance of effectiveness and convenience. First impressions were positive; it appeared to be a well-made, no-frills product that could potentially solve my stability issues.
Real-World Testing: Putting Evolution Gun Works AR Bag Rider, Front Only to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the EGW AR Bag Rider, Front Only at my local shooting range. I used a standard filled shooting bag as the support, and a .223 Wylde AR-15 with a 2″ diameter handguard for the testing. The weather was dry and mild, with a slight breeze.
Installation was incredibly simple, sliding directly onto the handguard. The rifle immediately felt more stable on the bag, and minor adjustments were noticeably easier to make. The smooth delrin surface allowed the rifle to glide effortlessly across the bag, ensuring that fine-tuning my aim was much less cumbersome.
There were no immediate issues, although I did notice that the rider could potentially slide forward under heavy recoil. This was easily remedied by ensuring the bag was properly positioned. My initial impression was that the EGW rider significantly improved my shooting experience.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the EGW AR Bag Rider, Front Only has proven to be a reliable addition to my range setup. The delrin plastic has shown no signs of wear and tear, even after repeated use in varying conditions. It has been exposed to both hot, sunny days and cooler, damp conditions with no adverse effects.
Maintenance is virtually non-existent; I simply wipe it down with a cloth after each range session to remove any dirt or debris. Compared to using improvised rests, the EGW provides a much more consistent and predictable shooting platform. It has definitely improved my group sizes and overall shooting comfort.
