First Impressions of Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr.
The Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr. is a compact, soft plastic lure designed to entice a wide variety of small predator fish. Eurotackle markets this lure as a minimalist yet highly effective option, particularly for perch, thanks to its subtle pin tail action. Its diminutive size and versatile application piqued my interest, promising a finesse presentation that could trigger strikes from even the most lethargic fish.
I was initially drawn to the Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr. because I needed a consistently reliable lure for targeting panfish in heavily pressured waters. The subtle presentation and small size suggested it could be effective when larger, more aggressive lures failed to produce.
Upon opening the package, the first thing I noticed was the softness of the plastic. The Eurogrub Jr. felt significantly more pliable than other soft plastics I’ve used, suggesting excellent action even with the slightest movement. Its diminutive size was also striking; at just 0.8 inches, it’s truly a micro-lure. Comparing it to other finesse lures like the Berkley Gulp! Alive! Minnow and the Zoom Tiny Fluke, the Eurogrub Jr. stood out for its simplicity and incredibly small profile, which I felt would be ideal for picky fish.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism. The build quality seemed good, and the lure looked like it could be extremely effective if rigged correctly. I was eager to see how it would perform in real-world fishing conditions.
Real-World Testing: Putting Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr. to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr. on a local reservoir known for its abundant population of perch and crappie. I rigged the lure on a 1/32 oz jig head and targeted areas around submerged timber and weed beds.
The Eurogrub Jr. performed exceptionally well, even in slightly windy conditions. The subtle tail action created a tempting shimmy, and I quickly started catching perch. The small size was perfect for the crappie, and I found that a slow, deliberate presentation worked best. There were no significant issues encountered during the first use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr. has proven to be a reliable and effective lure. I’ve used it successfully in various water conditions, including clear and murky water.
The plastic is surprisingly durable for its size. While it’s not indestructible, it holds up reasonably well to repeated casts and catches, typically lasting for multiple fish before needing replacement. Maintaining the lure is simple; just rinse it with water after use and store it in its original packaging to prevent drying out. Compared to previous experiences with other micro lures, the Eurotackle Eurogrub Jr. consistently outperforms in terms of both fish attraction and durability.
