The Emperor Arms MEGA 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock w/ Pistol Grip Made a Bold First Impression
For years, I’ve modified shotguns for various purposes – home defense, tactical training, and even some less-than-legal (hypothetically speaking, of course) hog hunting scenarios. The Emperor Arms MEGA 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock w/ Pistol Grip promised a significant upgrade in terms of ergonomics and maneuverability, and after a decade of relying on standard stocks, I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype. I’d been plagued by bulky, unwieldy shotguns that were tough to manipulate in close quarters.
The allure of a folding stock with an ergonomic pistol grip was strong; it offered the promise of easier storage and better control. Upon unboxing, my initial impression was positive: the polymer felt robust, the folding mechanism seemed solid, and the pistol grip fit my hand well. It looked like a serious piece of kit.
I’d considered the Mesa Tactical LEO adapter with an AR-style stock, known for its robust build, and the cheaper ATI Talon T2 stock, but the Emperor Arms option struck a balance between price and tactical features. I was hoping this wouldn’t feel like a compromise. It’s a gamble that hopefully pays off.
First impressions mattered, and the Emperor Arms MEGA 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock w/ Pistol Grip didn’t disappoint; it felt purpose-built and ready for action, sparking excitement for what I hoped to achieve in the field. Time would tell if its performance matched its aggressive aesthetics.
Real-World Testing: Putting Emperor Arms MEGA 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock w/ Pistol Grip to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Emperor Arms MEGA 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock w/ Pistol Grip was at an outdoor shooting range during a somewhat drizzly late afternoon. I wanted to gauge its performance under less-than-ideal conditions. The range provided a controlled environment to assess the stock’s ergonomics and recoil management.
The adjustable length-of-pull immediately proved useful, allowing me to quickly customize the fit, even with bulky tactical gloves. Initially, the folding mechanism felt a little stiff, but it loosened up after a few cycles. The pistol grip offered a noticeable improvement in control compared to my standard stock, particularly during rapid-fire drills. One surprise: the recoil pad, while seemingly adequate, wasn’t as plush as I’d hoped, leading to some shoulder fatigue after about 50 rounds of 12-gauge.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, including two trips to the hunting grounds and numerous range sessions, the Emperor Arms MEGA 12GA Folding Tactical Buttstock w/ Pistol Grip has proven itself a reliable upgrade. It’s endured mud, dust, and a few accidental bumps without showing any significant signs of wear and tear. Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth removes most debris.
Compared to my previous experiences with fixed stocks, the Emperor Arms system offers superior adaptability and comfort. While the recoil pad could be improved, the enhanced control and maneuverability make it a worthwhile trade-off. I am not disappointed, but feel some improvements could be made.
