First Impressions of Elite Survival Systems Smokescreen CCW Slingpack
The Elite Survival Systems Smokescreen CCW Slingpack promises a blend of everyday utility and discreet concealed carry. Elite Survival Systems aims to provide a modern, covert solution for carrying a firearm while maintaining a low-profile appearance. This slingpack caught my eye as I was seeking a more versatile and less conspicuous method for concealed carry than my usual IWB holster, especially when engaging in outdoor activities where printing could be a concern.
I’ve spent years refining my everyday carry (EDC) setup and understand the importance of comfortable and accessible concealment. The promise of ambidextrous draw and comfortable carry, coupled with the capacity for everyday essentials, intrigued me. Upon unboxing, the slingpack presented a clean, functional design that didn’t immediately scream “tactical.” The 900D Polyester material felt robust, but I was keen to see how it held up to real-world use.
I considered the 5.11 Tactical Rush MOAB 10 and the Maxpedition Sitka Gearslinger as potential alternatives. The Smokescreen edged them out with its dedicated, ambidextrous holster compartment and less overtly tactical aesthetic. I was hoping for a slingpack that seamlessly blended into a civilian environment while still providing quick access to a firearm if needed. Initial impressions suggest that Elite Survival Systems may have delivered.
Real-World Testing: Putting Elite Survival Systems Smokescreen CCW Slingpack to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Elite Survival Systems Smokescreen CCW Slingpack at my local shooting range and during a weekend hiking trip. At the range, I practiced drawing my Glock 19 from the holster compartment, focusing on smooth and natural movements. The pass-through design allowed for ambidextrous access, which was a significant benefit.
The hiking trip provided a different set of challenges, with varying weather conditions and rugged terrain. The Smokescreen performed admirably, maintaining a comfortable carry even with a full load of water bottles, snacks, and other essentials. However, I noticed that the single strap design could become a bit tiresome during extended hikes, requiring occasional adjustments to redistribute the weight.
Drawing from the pack while hiking required a bit more practice than at the range, but it remained relatively quick and efficient. The molded back panel provided decent ventilation, although I still experienced some sweating on warmer days. Overall, my initial experiences were positive, with the Smokescreen proving its worth as a discreet and functional CCW solution.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Elite Survival Systems Smokescreen CCW Slingpack has proven to be a reliable companion. The 900D Polyester material has held up remarkably well, showing minimal signs of wear and tear. I’ve used it for everything from daily commutes to weekend camping trips, and it has consistently performed as expected.
The zippers remain smooth and snag-free, and the stitching is still intact, even after being subjected to rough handling. Cleaning the pack is relatively easy, typically requiring just a damp cloth and mild soap. Compared to my previous CCW methods, the Smokescreen offers superior comfort and discretion, especially when carrying larger firearms.
The ease of access to my handgun provides peace of mind, knowing that I can quickly respond to any potential threats. While the single-strap design can be tiring during prolonged use, the benefits of discreet carry and ample storage outweigh this minor inconvenience. The Smokescreen has exceeded my initial expectations and has become an integral part of my EDC setup.
