First Impressions of **Eley Ammunition Bullseye Pistol X .22LR 40 Grain Lead Round Nose Brass Rimfire Ammunition
Eley BE Case**
As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist with over a decade of hands-on experience, I’ve seen my fair share of ammunition, from military-grade rifle rounds to specialized shotgun shells. However, I must admit that I hadn’t encountered Eley Ammunition Bullseye Pistol X .22LR 40 Grain Lead Round Nose Brass Rimfire Ammunition
Eley BE Case until recently; this piqued my curiosity, especially given Eley‘s reputation for precision and quality. The promise of “ultimate pistol precision” immediately caught my attention, making me eager to dive deeper and see if it lived up to the hype, especially when accuracy is the name of the game for my competitive shooting buddies.
My primary motivation for exploring this ammunition was simple: I was searching for the most consistent and accurate .22LR rounds for precision pistol shooting, specifically for an upcoming bullseye competition I’m planning to enter with my long-time shooting partner, Jim. I was looking for that edge that could shave fractions of an inch off our group sizes, potentially making all the difference between winning and losing.
Upon receiving the Eley BE Case, I was immediately struck by the sheer volume of ammunition – 5000 rounds is no small amount. The packaging was robust, ensuring the rounds were well-protected during shipping, and the individual boxes within the case were neatly organized. Compared to my usual go-to, CCI Standard Velocity, the Eley rounds had a noticeably cleaner and more uniform appearance, hinting at meticulous quality control.
I considered other premium .22LR options like SK Match and Lapua Center-X, but the combination of decent price and free shipping on the Eley case made it an attractive proposition for this test. Initial impressions were positive; the ammo looked promising, and I was excited to see how it would perform on the range.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism—the Eley name carries weight, but the proof is always in the shooting. I was excited to finally test them out and see if they would live up to the hype.
Real-World Testing: Putting **Eley Ammunition Bullseye Pistol X .22LR 40 Grain Lead Round Nose Brass Rimfire Ammunition
Eley BE Case** to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test of the Eley Ammunition Bullseye Pistol X took place at my local shooting range, an outdoor facility known for its varying wind conditions and challenging target distances. I brought along my Smith & Wesson Model 41, a pistol known for its inherent accuracy, and a Ransom Rest to eliminate human error. The conditions were less than ideal, with a slight crosswind and temperatures hovering around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Even with the less-than-perfect conditions, I immediately noticed the smooth and consistent chambering of the Eley rounds. The report was consistent, and the recoil was minimal, allowing for rapid follow-up shots. After the first few magazines, I also noticed less fouling than what I usually experience with standard .22LR ammo.
The accuracy was immediately apparent; my initial groupings at 25 yards were tighter than I had ever achieved with other ammunition, even in more favorable conditions. After about 100 rounds, the Eley rounds yielded a group size of approximately 0.75 inches at 25 yards from the Ransom Rest, compared to the 1.25-inch groups I typically achieve with CCI Standard Velocity. There were no misfires or failures to extract, showcasing the ammunition’s reliability.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks and thousands of rounds fired, the Eley Ammunition Bullseye Pistol X has consistently impressed me with its performance. I’ve put it through its paces in various conditions, including a damp, foggy morning and a scorching afternoon with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit. It consistently performed flawlessly with no malfunctions to report.
The ammunition has proven to be exceptionally durable, showing no signs of degradation or performance decline even after extended storage. Cleaning my pistol after each range session has been a breeze, thanks to the minimal fouling produced by the Eley rounds.
Compared to my previous experiences with other premium .22LR ammunition, the Eley rounds consistently outperform them in terms of accuracy and reliability. They have become my go-to choice for precision pistol shooting, significantly boosting my confidence in competitive scenarios.
