Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife Review

First Impressions of Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife

The Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife is the latest offering from the renowned Eickhorn Solingen, a German company synonymous with quality and tactical prowess. This compact EDC (Everyday Carry) knife, designed in collaboration with Svenson Design, promises a blend of robustness, lightweight portability, and functional design, all wrapped in a package that screams German engineering. As someone who’s spent over a decade evaluating outdoor and tactical gear, I was eager to see if the UC2 lived up to the Eickhorn reputation.

I was looking for a fixed blade knife that was small enough to carry daily without being cumbersome but strong enough to handle serious tasks. Many folding knives feel inadequate for heavier work, and larger fixed blades are often impractical for everyday carry. The UC2’s stated dimensions seemed to hit the sweet spot.

Upon unboxing, the first thing that struck me was the knife’s solid feel despite its compact size. The G10 handle felt secure and grippy in my hand, and the tanto blade’s lines were clean and aggressive. Compared to my Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter, which is designed for skinning, the UC2 felt more robust and versatile. It seemed more readily adaptable to various tasks. Unlike some “tactical” knives that are all show, the Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife felt like a tool designed for serious use. I was immediately excited to put it through its paces.

Real-World Testing: Putting Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife to the Test

First Use Experience

My initial field test of the Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife occurred during a weekend camping trip in the Angeles National Forest. I used it for various tasks, including preparing kindling, food preparation, and light camp chores. The weather was dry, but the environment presented a range of materials – from soft pine to harder oak.

The UC2 performed admirably across the board. The tanto blade’s tip proved useful for detailed work, while the robust spine handled batoning small pieces of firewood with surprising ease. The G10 handle provided a secure grip even when my hands were slightly damp from condensation. After the first day, I was already impressed with the balance of size, strength, and usability.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Eickhorn Solingen UC2 3.63in Fixed Blade Knife continues to impress. I’ve carried it on multiple hiking trips, used it for various tasks around the house, and even taken it to the shooting range to open ammo boxes and cut targets. The blade has held its edge remarkably well, requiring only occasional stropping to maintain sharpness.

There are no noticeable signs of wear and tear beyond some minor cosmetic scratches on the blade coating. Cleaning is straightforward, typically requiring only a quick wipe-down with a damp cloth. Compared to some of my other knives that require more elaborate cleaning and oiling, the UC2 is exceptionally low-maintenance. It significantly outperforms a cheaper Gerber Strongarm that I previously used, especially in edge retention and overall durability.
