EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh Review

First Impressions of EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh

The EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh landing net promises to be a versatile tool for anglers targeting a wide range of fish species. EGO Fishing is a well-regarded brand known for producing durable and functional fishing gear. This particular model boasts a telescoping handle, a large hoop size, and a non-tangle nylon mesh, all features that immediately caught my attention as someone who has struggled with cumbersome nets in the past.

My fishing experiences often involve navigating tight spaces on a kayak or wading through rivers with limited maneuverability. A compact yet capable landing net is crucial for a successful and ethical catch-and-release strategy. The telescoping handle and floating design seemed like potential solutions to these challenges.

Unboxing the EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh, my initial impression was positive. The build quality felt solid, and the nylon mesh was indeed softer and more pliable than the stiff, rubberized nets I’ve used previously. The slider mechanism on the handle operated smoothly, and the overall weight felt manageable.

Compared to the Frabill Trophy Haul net and the StowMaster Tournament Series, the EGO Fishing net seemed to strike a better balance between size and portability. The Frabill was larger, making it unwieldy for kayak fishing, while the StowMaster, while compact, felt less durable. The EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh appeared to offer the best compromise.

My first impression was excitement mixed with cautious optimism. I was eager to put it to the test on the water. The potential for improved maneuverability and reduced fish stress was enticing, but only real-world use would reveal its true performance.

Real-World Testing: Putting EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh during a weekend kayak fishing trip on a local lake targeting largemouth bass. The conditions were partly cloudy with a slight breeze, making for comfortable fishing weather. The water clarity was decent, allowing for clear visibility near the surface.

The net proved easy to deploy from my kayak. The telescoping handle extended smoothly, allowing me to reach fish further away from the boat. The large hoop size made it easy to scoop up bass of varying sizes, and the nylon mesh seemed gentle on the fish’s scales and slime coat.

There were no significant issues during the first outing. I found the net intuitive to use, and the telescoping mechanism worked flawlessly. The net also floated as advertised, which was a welcome feature when handling a lively fish while simultaneously paddling to maintain position.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh has held up remarkably well. I have used it in various fishing scenarios. This includes from a kayak, from the shore, and wading in rivers.

There are minimal signs of wear and tear. The nylon mesh has resisted snags and tears, even after encountering submerged branches and rocks. The telescoping handle still operates smoothly, and the locking mechanism remains secure.

Maintenance is straightforward. I simply rinse the net with fresh water after each use and occasionally scrub it with a mild soap solution to remove any algae or debris. Compared to my experience with rubberized nets, the nylon mesh is much easier to clean and doesn’t retain odors as readily.

In comparison to other nets I’ve used, the EGO Fishing S2 Slider Large Nylon Mesh outperforms them in terms of versatility, fish care, and ease of use. The telescoping handle provides added reach when needed, and the nylon mesh minimizes stress on the fish. It has quickly become my go-to landing net for most fishing situations.
