EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net Review

First Impressions of EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net

The EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net immediately grabs your attention with its striking Kryptek camo pattern and promise of innovative design. Marketed by EGO Fishing as a high-end fishing tool designed to meet demanding needs, I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype. The compact design and clear rubber netting piqued my interest, promising portability and fish-friendly handling.

For years, I’ve relied on traditional nets, often bulky and cumbersome, especially when navigating tight streams or kayak fishing. I needed a net that offered the reach of a larger model but could be easily stowed when not in use. My old net was also tough on the fish’s slime coat, something I’ve grown increasingly concerned about.

Unboxing the EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net, my first thought was, “This feels solid.” The handle, with its Kryptek finish, provided a comfortable and secure grip, and the slider mechanism felt smooth and reliable. The clear rubber netting appeared to be durable yet gentle.

I considered several other compact nets, including the Frabill Trophy Haul and the YakGear Kayak Fishing Net. I chose the EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net primarily for its promise of superior build quality and the fish-friendly clear rubber netting. The Kryptek camo was a bonus.

My initial impression was one of excitement; this net seemed to offer the perfect blend of portability, functionality, and fish care. I was eager to get it out on the water and put it to the test.

Real-World Testing: Putting EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net to the Test

First Use Experience

I first tested the EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net on a smallmouth bass fishing trip on the Potomac River. The river was running slightly high after a recent rain, presenting challenging conditions. Despite the turbulent water, the net proved easy to maneuver and extend, allowing me to secure several decent-sized smallmouth.

The clear rubber netting was a significant improvement over my old nylon net. Fish seemed less stressed during the netting process, and hook removal was noticeably easier. I did notice that the slider mechanism required a bit of effort to extend fully under pressure, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of use, the EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of significant wear and tear, even after being subjected to rocky river bottoms and the occasional accidental drop. The Kryptek finish on the handle remains intact, showing no signs of fading or scratching.

Maintenance is a breeze. A simple rinse with freshwater after each use is all it takes to keep the net clean. The rubber netting doesn’t absorb odors or slime, unlike traditional nylon nets.

Compared to my previous experiences with cheaper nets that quickly fell apart, the EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net has significantly outperformed them. Its durability and fish-friendly design make it a worthwhile investment.

Breaking Down the Features of EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net

Specifications

• Manufacturer: EGO Fishing.
• Weight: 2.53 lb.
• Additional Features: No (according to the listed specifications, but the sliding handle is a significant feature).
• Length: 25 yds (This seems to be an error. It is likely the extended length in inches. The description lists it in yards but this is most likely a typo).
• Width: 19 in (Net hoop width).
• Height: 2 in (Net hoop depth).

These specifications are important because they dictate the net’s portability, reach, and the size of fish it can comfortably handle. The 2.53 lb weight is manageable for all-day use, and the listed dimensions, assuming the length is a typo, are suitable for landing a variety of fish species.

Performance & Functionality

The EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net performs its job admirably. The sliding handle provides extended reach when needed, and the clear rubber netting minimizes stress on the fish. Its greatest strength is its balance of portability and functionality; it’s easy to carry yet capable of handling decent-sized fish.

One area for improvement would be to make the sliding mechanism even smoother, requiring less effort to extend under pressure. It meets my expectations for a high-end fishing net but could benefit from minor refinements.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality is excellent; the materials feel durable, and the Kryptek camo handle provides a comfortable and secure grip. The weight is well-balanced, and the net feels comfortable in hand, even after hours of use.

There’s a slight learning curve to using the sliding mechanism, but it quickly becomes second nature. The clear rubber netting is a smart design choice, both for fish care and ease of hook removal.

Durability & Maintenance

The EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net is built to last. With proper care, it should provide years of reliable service. Maintenance is minimal; a simple rinse after each use is all that’s required.

The durable materials and thoughtful design ensure that this net can withstand the rigors of regular use.

Accessories and Customization Options

The EGO Fishing Kryptek S2 Slider Compact Clear Rubber Net does not come with additional accessories and isn’t really designed for extensive customization. The focus is on its core functionality as a landing net. However, the EGO Fishing S2 Slider system does allow for attachment to other EGO Fishing handles.

The compatibility with other EGO Fishing S2 Slider products could be considered a customization option, allowing anglers to switch between different net heads and handles depending on their needs.
