The AR-9 platform, chambered in 9mm, has become increasingly popular for its versatility and affordability in training. Finding reliable magazines for these builds can be a challenge, as many struggle with consistent feeding, especially with various ammunition types. My journey with AR-9s began several years ago, and one recurring issue I faced was magazine reliability. I needed a magazine that could consistently feed a variety of 9mm ammunition, from budget-friendly FMJ range ammo to premium self-defense hollow points, without any hiccups.

Compared to some older polymer magazines I’ve used, this DuraMag offering felt significantly more robust. I also compared it to a couple of metal magazines from other brands. I chose the DuraMag primarily because of the manufacturer’s reputation for quality and the specific claims about improved feeding reliability with a wide range of ammunition.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was eager to see if it lived up to the hype, particularly given the challenges I’ve experienced with other 9mm AR magazines.
