First Impressions of DOMETIC Deluxe Plus Standard Window Awning – 42″
For years, I’ve worked on RVs and campers, kitting them out for adventurers hitting the open road. One constant challenge is battling the sun. Direct sunlight pouring through windows turns any RV into an oven, making air conditioning work overtime and comfort a distant dream. I needed a reliable, easy-to-install solution, which is why the DOMETIC Deluxe Plus Standard Window Awning – 42″ caught my eye.
I was looking for something better than makeshift solutions like reflective tarps or bulky external shades. I needed something streamlined, effective, and aesthetically pleasing. Upon receiving it, I was eager to see if the DOMETIC awning lived up to its promise of easy setup and significant temperature reduction.
Unboxing the DOMETIC Deluxe Plus Standard Window Awning – 42″, I immediately noticed the quality of the material. It felt durable and weather-resistant, and the color pattern, while simple, seemed well-executed. The strap mechanism appeared straightforward, promising the sub-10-second setup advertised.
I had previously considered the Carefree RV window awning and the Lippert Components Solera window awning. Both seemed more complex to install and adjust compared to the DOMETIC‘s strap system. I chose the DOMETIC for its promise of simplicity and the brand’s solid reputation in the RV accessory market.
Initially, I was cautiously optimistic. The build quality seemed good, but I reserved final judgment until I could test its ease of installation and actual performance in real-world conditions. The sleek design certainly piqued my interest, hinting at a functional and aesthetically pleasing addition to any RV.
Real-World Testing: Putting DOMETIC Deluxe Plus Standard Window Awning – 42″ to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test was on a vintage Airstream trailer I was renovating for a client in the high desert of Arizona. The scorching sun here is brutal, and window coverings are a necessity, not a luxury. Installation truly was quick. I secured the strap, adjusted the awning’s position, and within seconds, the window was shielded from the direct sun.
The difference was immediately noticeable. The interior temperature near the window dropped significantly. The awning performed well, even in a slight breeze; the strap held firm and the awning material didn’t flap excessively.
There were no significant issues on the first use. The setup was as easy as advertised, and the initial impact on temperature reduction was promising. I did notice that the strap material felt a bit thin, making me wonder about its long-term durability.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks in the Arizona sun and subsequent testing on a camping trip in the humid forests of the Pacific Northwest, the DOMETIC Deluxe Plus Standard Window Awning – 42″ has proven to be a reliable addition. It effectively blocks sunlight and provides valuable protection from light rain.
The awning material shows no signs of fading or wear despite prolonged UV exposure. The strap, while initially concerning, has held up surprisingly well. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually all that’s needed to keep it clean.
Compared to previous experiences with flimsy, generic RV window coverings, the DOMETIC awning stands out for its ease of use, durability, and noticeable impact on interior temperature. It outperformed my expectations and has become a recommended product for my clients.
