First Impressions of DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar
The DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar isn’t exactly a piece of tactical gear in the traditional sense; it’s more about mobile living comfort. Dometic promises solutions for food and beverage, climate, power, safety, and hygiene on the go, and this particular product seems focused on the latter – specifically, a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing addition to an RV or campervan bathroom. My initial thought is: can Dometic deliver on “mobile living made easy” with what appears to be a high-end RV toilet?
I was driven to explore the DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar because I’m in the process of upfitting a Sprinter van for extended off-grid adventures. A key challenge has been finding a toilet solution that balances functionality, space-saving design, and a level of comfort that makes extended trips enjoyable. Compromises abound in the RV world, but the promise of a “deluxe” toilet with a stylish finish piqued my interest.
Unboxing the DOMETIC unit was a surprisingly pleasant experience. The “Linen Fade Onyx Polar” color scheme presents as a sophisticated blend of neutral tones. The build quality appears solid, with no immediately obvious cheap plastics or flimsy components. It’s heavier than I anticipated, suggesting a robust construction and potentially a ceramic bowl beneath the fancy finish.
Compared to alternatives like composting toilets (which require more user involvement) or basic plastic RV toilets (lacking in aesthetics), the Dometic aims for a sweet spot of convenience and luxury. I considered a Thetford Aqua-Magic V, known for its affordability, and a Nature’s Head composting toilet for its off-grid capabilities, but the Dometic won out with its promise of “precision construction” and a less rustic experience. My first impression is cautiously optimistic, leaning towards excited, but the real test will be in the installation and long-term use.
Real-World Testing: Putting DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial test involved installing the DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar in my partially completed Sprinter van conversion. The installation process wasn’t exactly plug-and-play, requiring some careful plumbing connections and ensuring a level mounting surface. However, the result was immediately rewarding: the toilet added a touch of elegance to the utilitarian space.
I tested the flush mechanism with a limited water supply, simulating off-grid conditions. It flushed efficiently and quietly, leaving a clean bowl. The height and elongated bowl shape were noticeably more comfortable than the standard low-profile RV toilets I’ve encountered. No immediate issues arose, although the lack of a user manual included in the packaging was frustrating.
Extended Use & Reliability
After a few months of weekend camping trips, the DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar has proven itself to be a reliable and comfortable addition to my van. The “Linen Fade Onyx Polar” finish has held up well, showing no signs of discoloration or staining despite regular use. It still looks as pristine as the day I installed it.
Durability-wise, everything feels solid and secure. The flush mechanism remains smooth and consistent, and there are no leaks or drips. Cleaning is surprisingly easy; the smooth surfaces and ceramic bowl make quick work of any messes. It definitely outperforms the standard plastic RV toilet in terms of both comfort and aesthetics.

The unit’s dimensions are crucial for RV and campervan installations, particularly in space-constrained environments. Performance & Functionality
The DOMETIC 85604NR.0360-B W/A Dlx+ 36″ Linen Fade Onyx Polar excels in providing a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing bathroom experience in a mobile setting. Based on my experience, the elongated bowl and comfortable height contribute significantly to user comfort. The primary weakness lies in the lack of detailed specifications readily available. This makes it difficult to accurately assess water consumption and compatibility with specific RV plumbing systems. It largely meets expectations, delivering a comfortable and relatively luxurious RV toilet experience, though more transparency in specifications would improve confidence.
Design & Ergonomics
The build quality is excellent, with the Dometic unit feeling solid and well-constructed. The materials used appear to be high-quality, contributing to the overall sense of luxury. It’s heavier than basic RV toilets, which can be a factor during installation but also suggests a more robust construction.
The design is undeniably user-friendly, with the standard toilet operation being intuitive for anyone familiar with household toilets. There’s no significant learning curve, making it a convenient upgrade for RV owners seeking a more comfortable bathroom experience.

Finding replacement parts may be a challenge in very remote locations, but standard plumbing fittings should be readily accessible for most repairs. Routine cleaning and preventative maintenance will ensure it remains in top condition.
Accessories and Customization Options
The product details don’t specify any included accessories or customization options. However, standard RV plumbing connections allow for the use of aftermarket toilet paper holders or sprayers for added hygiene. Check compatibility before purchasing. The absence of included accessories is a minor drawback, but the standard RV plumbing interfaces allow for customization.
