The Dethmers Manufacturing Company 9523064 Demco Safety Cable Extensions 12in are designed to provide extra length to your trailer safety cables when needed. Manufactured by Dethmers Manufacturing Company, these extensions offer a simple solution for those towing situations where standard cable lengths just don’t cut it. With a combined strength rating of 14,000 lbs when used in tandem, these extensions are built to offer safety and peace of mind while towing.
I’ve encountered situations time and again where the factory-supplied safety cables on trailers were simply too short, particularly when using weight distribution hitches or towing with lifted vehicles. The need for a reliable and safe extension solution became clear – zip ties and makeshift solutions simply weren’t acceptable. I sought out a product that would maintain the integrity of the safety system, without compromising strength or reliability.
Upon unboxing, I immediately noticed the heavy-duty construction of the extensions. The galvanized steel cables felt robust, and the clevis hooks appeared well-made and durable. They had a reassuring weight that spoke to their quality, offering a stark contrast to some of the flimsier extensions I’ve seen on the market.
I had been considering a set of chain extensions from a local hardware store, as well as a set of longer, but thinner gauge cables from an online retailer. I opted for the Demco extensions because of their stated strength rating and the reputation of the Demco brand in the towing industry. The peace of mind that comes with using a product specifically designed for towing safety was a key factor in my decision.
My initial impression was one of cautious optimism, which quickly turned into satisfaction upon closer inspection. I was excited to finally have a proper solution to those frustrating cable length issues, hoping to find that these extensions would perform as well as they looked.
Real-World Testing: Putting Dethmers Manufacturing Company 9523064 Demco Safety Cable Extensions 12in to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test involved towing a small utility trailer behind my lifted Jeep Wrangler. I was transporting some landscaping materials about 50 miles, a mix of highway and back roads. The Demco extensions provided the perfect length, allowing for proper slack in the safety cables without dragging on the ground.
I encountered some light rain during the trip, but the galvanized finish on the extensions showed no signs of corrosion. The clevis hooks were easy to attach and remained securely fastened throughout the journey. There was no noticeable increase in noise or sway due to the extensions.
Using the extensions was straightforward and required no specialized tools or expertise. I simply connected the clevis hooks to the trailer and vehicle, ensuring a secure fit. After my first use, I was confident in the functionality and ease of use that these cables had to offer.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Demco safety cable extensions have held up exceptionally well. I’ve used them to tow everything from small trailers to heavier loads like ATVs and construction materials. They continue to perform flawlessly, providing the necessary length and security without any issues.
The galvanized finish has proven to be durable, with minimal signs of wear and tear despite exposure to rain, mud, and road salt. The clevis hooks still operate smoothly and show no signs of weakening or deformation. The cables themselves are in great condition, showing no fraying or kinking.
Maintenance is incredibly simple: I occasionally wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. I’ve used other safety cable extensions in the past that quickly became corroded and unreliable. The Demco extensions have far exceeded my expectations in terms of durability and long-term performance.
