First Thoughts on the Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case Black Nylon 14″ 12 & 20 ga Shotgun
The Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case Black Nylon 14″ 12 & 20 ga Shotgun is a specialized piece of gear designed for a niche but growing segment of firearm owners: those who own the compact 14″ pump-action shotguns like the Mossberg Shockwave or Remington Tac-14. Desantis Gunhide is a well-known name in the holster and firearm accessories industry, and their reputation for quality and innovation immediately piqued my interest. The promise of easy and safe transport of my 14″ shotgun, along with the ability to carry ammunition, made this case an appealing solution for a common problem I face.
As a seasoned outdoorsman and tactical gear enthusiast, I’ve wrestled with the challenge of effectively transporting these shorter shotguns. Traditional cases are too long, creating unnecessary bulk and drawing unwanted attention. My need was simple: a discreet, durable, and functional case that allows me to transport my Tac-14 safely and legally to the range or in the field.
Unboxing the Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case revealed a rugged, well-constructed case. The initial feel of the 1060D Senior Ballistic Nylon suggests durability, and the smooth pack cloth lining gives me confidence that my shotgun’s finish will be protected. The leather attachments add a touch of class and reinforce key stress points.
Compared to a standard rifle case, which is bulky and cumbersome, or a minimalist soft case that offers little protection, the Kurz seemed like a Goldilocks solution. I considered a custom-made scabbard, but the price was prohibitive. The Desantis case offered a balance of features, price, and perceived quality that others didn’t.
My first impression was cautiously optimistic. The design seemed well-thought-out, and the materials felt robust. I was eager to see how it performed in the real world.
Real-World Testing: Putting Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case Black Nylon 14″ 12 & 20 ga Shotgun to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case was a trip to my local shooting range. I wanted to assess how easily I could transport my Remington Tac-14 and access it quickly. The case performed admirably in this environment.
The 14″ shotgun slid easily into the case, and the shoulder strap made carrying it hands-free a breeze. Navigating the parking lot and range with the Kurz was significantly less awkward than with a full-length case. There were no issues or surprises during the first use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of using the Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case on various trips, from range days to off-road adventures, I can attest to its durability. The ballistic nylon has held up remarkably well, showing no signs of wear or tear, despite being tossed around in the back of my truck and exposed to dust and dirt. Cleaning the case is simple. A damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove any grime.
Compared to cheaper nylon cases I’ve used in the past, the Desantis Kurz feels significantly more robust and better constructed. The stitching is tight, and the materials are clearly of higher quality. It has consistently outperformed my expectations and proven to be a reliable piece of gear.

These specifications are critical for several reasons. The ballistic nylon ensures the case can withstand rough handling and exposure to the elements. The smooth lining prevents scratches and damage to the firearm during transport. The closed-cell foam provides impact protection. The ammunition carrier offers a convenient way to keep extra shells organized and accessible. The ambidextrous strap ensures comfortable carry for both right- and left-handed users.

The design is straightforward and functional. There’s no excessive bulk or unnecessary frills. The case is comfortable to carry and easy to use. There is virtually no learning curve.
Durability & Maintenance
Given the high-quality materials and construction, the Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case should last for many years with proper care. The ballistic nylon is resistant to tearing and abrasion. The stitching is reinforced at stress points.
Maintenance is simple. A quick wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually all that’s needed to keep the case clean. The case should be stored in a dry place when not in use.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Desantis Gunhide Kurz Shotgun Case comes with a removable gauge-specific ammunition carrier. The carrier is designed to hold several 12 or 20 gauge shotgun shells, keeping them organized and easily accessible. Beyond the included ammunition carrier, customization options are limited, as the case is specifically designed for a particular type of firearm.
While you can’t add accessories directly to the case, the internal space may accommodate aftermarket shotgun accessories like a shell carrier attached to the receiver or a compact light. However, this depends on the size and configuration of the accessories.
