What Makes DeSantis DS Paddle Kydex Holsters, Glock 19, 23, – 1 out of 27 models Stand Out?
In the world of concealed carry, finding the right holster is paramount for comfort, security, and accessibility. The DeSantis DS Paddle Kydex Holsters, Glock 19, 23, – 1 out of 27 models offers a compelling solution for Glock owners seeking a reliable and versatile outside-the-waistband (OWB) option. With its thermo-plastic construction, adjustable cant, and dual attachment options, this holster aims to provide a custom fit and smooth draw for Glock 19 and 23 users.
Years of using various holsters for duty and personal carry created a nagging need for a holster that was both secure and easily accessible. I was tired of flimsy holsters that shifted during movement and slow, clunky draws. I needed a reliable OWB holster for my Glock 19 that offered both speed and a secure hold, especially for range days and training scenarios.
My first impression upon receiving the DeSantis DS Paddle Kydex Holster was its surprisingly lightweight design. The Kydex material felt sturdy and well-molded, promising a snug fit for my Glock 19. The included paddle and belt slot attachment options immediately impressed me with their versatility.
I considered the Safariland 7378RDS 7TS ALS Concealment Paddle & Belt Loop Combo Holster and the Blackhawk! SERPA CQC Concealment Holster. However, I chose the DeSantis due to its simpler design, adjustable cant, and the option to switch between paddle and belt loop attachments. The DeSantis also appeared to offer a smoother, less encumbered draw compared to the SERPA’s retention mechanism.
My initial excitement was tempered by a bit of skepticism about the paddle’s retention, but overall, I was eager to test its performance and comfort in real-world scenarios. Could DeSantis deliver on its promise of a lightweight, secure, and easily adjustable holster? I was determined to find out.
Real-World Testing: Putting DeSantis DS Paddle Kydex Holsters, Glock 19, 23, – 1 out of 27 models to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the DeSantis DS Paddle Kydex Holster at an outdoor shooting range during a practical pistol course. I ran drills involving drawing, firing, and re-holstering under timed conditions. The holster was subjected to a mix of sunny and slightly dusty conditions.
The holster performed exceptionally well in terms of draw speed and weapon retention. The Glock 19 snapped securely into place, and the draw was smooth and consistent. I didn’t experience any issues with the holster shifting or feeling insecure during rapid movements.
Initially, I needed a few practice draws to find the optimal angle for drawing from the paddle, but after that, it became second nature. There were no unexpected issues during the first range session, and the holster felt surprisingly comfortable even after several hours of use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of regular use, including multiple range sessions and some open-carry scenarios during hikes, the DeSantis DS Paddle Kydex Holster has proven to be a reliable and durable option. The Kydex material shows no signs of cracking or deformation. The paddle and belt loop attachments remain secure and functional.
There are some minor scuff marks on the holster from repeated draws, but these are purely cosmetic. Maintenance involves simply wiping down the holster with a damp cloth after each use. The DeSantis has consistently outperformed other cheaper holsters I’ve used in the past, which often lacked adequate retention or wore out quickly.
Compared to other OWB holsters I’ve owned, the DeSantis stands out due to its secure retention, comfortable paddle, and ease of adjustment. It’s a noticeable upgrade in both comfort and performance.
