Let’s Dive into Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling
The Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling is a no-frills, budget-friendly option for carrying your rifle. Marketed as a basic but reliable solution, this sling from Crosstac aims to provide a secure and comfortable carry without breaking the bank. It features a simple 1.25-inch wide webbing and includes HK-style connectors for easy attachment.
I had been searching for a simple, no-nonsense sling for my AR-15. I had just finished a build and didn’t want to spend a lot on a sling. I was looking for something functional and durable enough for occasional range trips and training days.
Upon unboxing, the Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling seemed straightforward and well-made. The webbing felt sturdy enough, and the HK-style clips appeared to be of decent quality. Its simplicity was immediately appealing, as many tactical slings can be overly complex.
I considered the Blue Force Gear Vickers Sling and the Magpul MS1, both known for their quality and quick adjustability. However, I chose the Crosstac due to its lower price point, prioritizing basic functionality over advanced features for this particular build. I was pleasantly surprised by the apparent quality considering the price.
Real-World Testing: Putting Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test involved a trip to an outdoor shooting range, spending a few hours practicing various drills. The Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling allowed me to comfortably carry my rifle between shooting positions. During this time it distributed the weight evenly across my shoulder.
I used the sling in dry conditions, and the webbing didn’t slip or cause any discomfort against my clothing. Setting up the sling on my rifle took a couple of minutes using the HK-style clips. I had no issues with the clips detaching unintentionally during use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several range sessions and a weekend of light hiking with my rifle, the Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling has held up reasonably well. There are no signs of fraying or tearing on the webbing. The metal clips show no signs of rust or corrosion.
Cleaning the sling is straightforward. I have just wiped it down with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. I feel confident that this sling will last for a while with proper care, especially considering its intended use.
Breaking Down the Features of Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling
Specifications
The Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling features a 1.25-inch wide nylon webbing. This width provides a comfortable balance between weight distribution and maneuverability. HK-style connectors are included. They offer a secure and quick attachment to most rifles.
The Manufacturer is Crosstac, and they have focused on simplicity and affordability with this model. These specifications make it a solid entry-level sling for anyone looking for a simple solution.
Performance & Functionality
The Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling performs its primary function effectively: securely carrying a rifle. The webbing is strong enough to support the weight of a fully loaded AR-15. It provides a stable and hands-free carrying option.
The simplicity of the design is both a strength and a weakness. It lacks the quick-adjust features of more expensive slings, but it is inherently reliable due to its straightforward construction. It meets the basic expectations of a tactical sling, offering reliable weapon retention and comfortable carry.
Design & Ergonomics
The design is minimalistic, focusing on functionality over aesthetics. The 1.25-inch webbing sits comfortably on the shoulder without digging in, even during extended use.
The sling is easy to adjust using the provided sliders, allowing for a customized fit. While not as ergonomic as padded slings, it is acceptable for the price range.
Durability & Maintenance
The nylon webbing feels durable. I expect it to withstand moderate use without significant wear and tear. The HK-style clips are made of metal and appear resistant to corrosion.
Maintenance is simple, requiring only occasional cleaning with a damp cloth. The Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling is designed to be a low-maintenance, durable piece of gear.
Accessories and Customization Options
The Crosstac OEM / Base Tactical Gun Sling comes standard with HK-style connectors. This limits accessory options but ensures compatibility with a wide range of rifles equipped with sling attachment points.
Aftermarket sling swivels and adapters can be used to customize the attachment method further. You could adapt it to fit different weapon platforms beyond those designed for HK-style clips.
