The Cor Bon 45 Colt 225 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point -DPX Brass Cased Pistol Ammunition promises a potent combination of stopping power and reliable performance. Marketed as a deep-penetrating, expanding, all-copper, lead-free round, it piqued my interest as someone who prioritizes both ethical hunting and effective self-defense options. I needed a cartridge that could deliver consistent results across various scenarios, and the DPX line’s reputation for barrier penetration made it a contender.
My search for optimal 45 Colt ammunition stemmed from a desire for increased confidence in both my carry weapon and backup hunting sidearm. Standard lead hollow points can sometimes underperform against barriers like heavy clothing or car doors. I needed something that would maintain its integrity and expansion after encountering such obstacles.
The moment I opened the box of Cor Bon ammunition, I immediately noticed the bright, clean brass casings and the distinctive hollow point design. The all-copper construction gave them a unique look compared to traditional lead-core rounds. The rounds felt substantial and well-made, instilling an initial sense of quality.
I had considered Buffalo Bore’s heavy 45 Colt loads and Hornady’s Critical Duty rounds for similar purposes. However, I chose the Cor Bon DPX due to its lead-free construction and reputation for consistent expansion. I was hoping for a reliable, high-performance round that minimizes lead exposure.
My first impression was definitely positive. The ammunition appeared well-crafted and designed for a specific purpose. I was excited to see how it performed in real-world testing, especially regarding its barrier penetration and expansion claims.
Real-World Testing: Putting Cor Bon 45 Colt 225 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point -DPX Brass Cased Pistol Ammunition DPX45C225/20 $2.06 Off to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Cor Bon 45 Colt 225 Grain JHP -DPX at my local shooting range, focusing on accuracy and consistency at various distances. The ammunition performed admirably, delivering tight groupings at 15 and 25 yards.
I tested the rounds in both a Ruger Blackhawk and a S&W Governor. Accuracy was consistent across both platforms, even in slightly breezy conditions. I experienced no malfunctions during the initial testing session.
However, the recoil was noticeably sharper compared to standard pressure 45 Colt loads.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Cor Bon ammunition has proven to be remarkably reliable. I’ve put several boxes through both revolvers with no failures to feed, fire, or eject.
I tested the ammunition’s durability by leaving a few rounds exposed to the elements for a couple of weeks. Despite some minor tarnishing on the brass, they fired flawlessly when tested.
Compared to my previous experience with standard lead hollow points, the Cor Bon DPX consistently outperforms them in terms of penetration and expansion. The all-copper construction seems to make a significant difference.
