First Impressions of CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group
The CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group chambered in .45 ACP promises to deliver the classic punch of the legendary pistol cartridge in a modern, adaptable carbine platform. CMMG is a well-respected name in the AR-15 world, known for innovation and quality. This upper receiver group caught my eye because I’ve always loved the .45 ACP round and wanted a reliable, accurate, and fun-to-shoot carbine in that caliber.
I’ve been searching for a .45 ACP carbine for home defense and range fun, and this upper seemed like a perfect fit. I needed something reliable, accurate, and compatible with readily available AR-15 lowers. I was hoping for an upper that would deliver consistent performance and be easy to maintain.
Upon unboxing, the CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group impressed me with its robust construction and clean finish. The Armor Black coating looked durable, and the M-LOK rail felt solid. The medium tapered barrel gave it a balanced feel, and the CMMG Zeroed Muzzle Brake looked aggressive.
Compared to similar .45 ACP upper receiver groups from other manufacturers, this one stood out due to CMMG’s reputation for quality and their Radial Delayed Blowback operating system. I considered options from other brands, but the CMMG’s reputation for reliability and the promise of a smoother recoil impulse swayed me. I chose this over others because of the expected reliability and quality, despite the slightly higher price.
I was excited and hopeful that the CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group would live up to its potential. The initial impression was positive, and I couldn’t wait to get it to the range. I was anticipating a fun and reliable .45 ACP carbine experience.
Real-World Testing: Putting CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group to the Test
First Use Experience
I tested the CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group at my local outdoor shooting range. The weather was clear and sunny, perfect for a day of shooting. I paired it with a standard AR-15 lower receiver and a .45 ACP Glock magazine adapter.
The upper performed flawlessly during the initial range session. It cycled reliably with various brands of .45 ACP ammunition. The recoil was surprisingly manageable for a .45 ACP carbine, thanks to the CMMG Radial Delayed Blowback system and the Zeroed Muzzle Brake.

After several months of regular use, the CMMG MkG Resolute Upper Receiver Group has proven to be exceptionally reliable. I’ve put hundreds of rounds through it without any malfunctions directly attributable to the upper itself. It continues to function flawlessly.
The Armor Black finish has held up well, showing minimal signs of wear even after being used in various weather conditions. The M-LOK rail system remains solid and secure. Cleaning the upper is straightforward; the bolt and barrel are easily accessible for maintenance.
Compared to my previous experiences with other .45 ACP firearms, the CMMG outperforms them in terms of reliability and recoil management.
