First Thoughts on the CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten
The CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten is a unique firearm that piqued my interest the moment I saw it advertised. CMMG is known for pushing boundaries, and this rifle chambered in the relatively new 22 ARC cartridge seemed like another example of their innovative spirit. The promise of AR-15 ergonomics with a modern, high-velocity .22 caliber cartridge was intriguing enough to warrant a closer look.
My interest stemmed from a desire for a versatile platform capable of both precision target shooting and varmint hunting at extended ranges. I’ve been searching for something offering flat trajectory and minimal recoil, allowing for accurate follow-up shots. My current .22 LR rifle, while reliable and inexpensive to shoot, lacked the range and power needed for some of the longer shots I wanted to take on prairie dogs and other small game.
Upon unboxing the CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten, I was immediately impressed with the sleek design and overall fit and finish. The tungsten Cerakote finish gives it a premium feel, and the controls felt smooth and intuitive. It’s surprisingly lightweight considering its 16.1-inch barrel, making it comfortable to shoulder and handle.
Compared to my existing AR-15 in 5.56 and my bolt-action .22 LR, the Dissent fills a very specific niche. It offers more power and range than the .22 LR, while remaining far cheaper to shoot than the 5.56, making it an excellent option for high-volume shooting and honing my skills. The Dissent also provides a more compact and maneuverable package than some of the other AR-15 platforms on the market.
My first impression was one of excitement. This firearm has the potential to be a game-changer for small game hunters and target shooters alike. I couldn’t wait to get it to the range and see what it could do.
Real-World Testing: Putting CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten to the Test
First Use Experience
My first range trip with the CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten was at my local outdoor range, with distances out to 300 yards. I was fortunate to test it on a clear, calm day, providing ideal conditions for evaluating accuracy. I brought a variety of 22 ARC ammunition from different manufacturers to see how the Dissent would perform with each.
The Dissent cycled flawlessly with all the ammunition I tested, demonstrating impressive reliability. The minimal recoil allowed me to stay on target and make quick follow-up shots. I quickly discovered that the 22 ARC round lives up to its promise of a flat trajectory, making it much easier to hit targets at longer ranges than with a traditional .22 LR.
After the first range session, I was thrilled, but I found the factory trigger a bit heavy for precision work, and made a note to upgrade it later. Also, I felt that the factory grip was not ergonomic for my hands, so I will eventually be swapping it out.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten has continued to impress me with its reliability and durability. I’ve taken it on multiple varmint hunts, where it has proven to be an incredibly effective tool for dispatching prairie dogs and ground squirrels at distances out to 250 yards. I have also enjoyed using it for target practice and skills development at the range.
The Dissent’s Cerakote finish has held up remarkably well, showing minimal signs of wear despite being exposed to dirt, dust, and even a bit of rain during my hunts. Cleaning and maintenance are straightforward, as the Dissent breaks down like any other AR-15 platform. I generally clean it after each range session or hunt to ensure optimal performance.
Compared to my previous experiences with other rimfire rifles, the CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Tungsten is in a different league. It offers a superior combination of accuracy, reliability, and flat trajectory, making it a joy to shoot and a highly effective tool for varmint hunting. It definitely lives up to the hype and exceeds my expectations.

The 16.10-inch barrel strikes a good balance between maneuverability and accuracy, making it suitable for both hunting and target shooting.
The barrel has a 1:7 twist rate, optimized for stabilizing the longer, heavier bullets typically used in 22 ARC cartridges.
