First Thoughts on the CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Sniper Gray 6061-T6 Aluminum
The CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Sniper Gray 6061-T6 Aluminum promises a unique shooting experience, blending the AR-15 platform with the newly developed 22 ARC cartridge. CMMG is known for its innovative approach to firearms, and the Dissent line aims to provide a compact, adaptable, and accurate shooting solution. With its distinct design and chambering, this particular Dissent model grabbed my attention as a potential training tool and small game hunting platform.
I was looking for a versatile AR-pattern rifle that offered reduced recoil and ammunition cost for extended range sessions. I also needed a compact platform that could serve as a truck gun. The 22 ARC chambering in the Mk4 Dissent seemed to offer the perfect balance between these competing needs.
The unboxing experience was, honestly, somewhat anticlimactic. The rifle itself, finished in the Sniper Gray, looked robust, and the 6061-T6 aluminum receiver felt solid. However, I was hoping for a more premium unboxing experience, especially considering the price point.
Compared to similar .22LR AR-pattern rifles from Smith & Wesson and Ruger, the CMMG Dissent stood out due to its 22 ARC chambering. This choice promised greater accuracy and range than the .22LR offerings. The Sig Sauer MCX Rattler in .22LR was another contender, but the CMMG offered a more traditional AR-15 manual of arms.
My first impression was cautious optimism. The CMMG Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Sniper Gray 6061-T6 Aluminum certainly looked the part, but I was eager to see if its performance would live up to the hype. The Sniper Gray finish, while aesthetically pleasing, felt a little thin; I was concerned about its long-term durability.
Real-World Testing: Putting CMMG Inc. Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Sniper Gray 6061-T6 Aluminum to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the CMMG Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Sniper Gray 6061-T6 Aluminum was at an outdoor shooting range on a relatively calm day. I wanted to gauge its accuracy and handling characteristics at various distances. I used a variety of 22 ARC ammunition from different manufacturers to see how the rifle would perform with different loads.
The CMMG Dissent performed well even in moderate wind. The 22 ARC cartridge provided noticeable accuracy improvement over .22LR rounds, particularly at 100 yards and beyond.
The rifle was easy to use, thanks to its familiar AR-15 controls. However, I did experience a few initial failures to feed, especially with cheaper ammunition. I needed a box or two of ammo before the rifle reliably cycled.
After the first range session, I found a small scratch on the receiver. This reinforced my earlier concerns about the finish’s durability.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the CMMG Dissent Mk4 – 22Arc – Sniper Gray 6061-T6 Aluminum has proven to be reasonably reliable. The initial feeding issues disappeared after the first few hundred rounds.
The Sniper Gray finish is showing wear in high-friction areas, despite careful handling. I’ve noticed scuff marks around the magazine well and charging handle.
Maintenance is relatively straightforward, similar to any AR-15-pattern rifle. Regular cleaning and lubrication are essential for optimal performance.
Compared to my previous experiences with other .22LR AR rifles, the CMMG Dissent offers superior accuracy and greater effective range. However, the higher ammunition cost compared to .22LR can be a deterrent for high-volume shooting. The proprietary nature of the 22 ARC round is a potential downside.
