The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray Made a Bold First Impression
The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray immediately caught my eye with its sleek aesthetics and promise of precision rimfire shooting. This dedicated 22 ARC upper receiver assembly from CMMG aims to deliver the accuracy and feel of a full-sized rifle in a cost-effective and versatile package. I was drawn to it, seeking a reliable and accurate 22LR platform for training and small-game hunting, something that offered more precision than my aging Ruger 10/22.
For years, I’ve relied on AR-15 platforms for everything from tactical training to varmint control. The high cost of centerfire ammunition, however, makes frequent practice sessions a significant financial burden. I needed a solution that would allow me to maintain my proficiency without breaking the bank, and the CMMG 22 ARC seemed like the perfect answer.
Unboxing the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray revealed a well-finished upper receiver. The Sniper Gray Cerakote was evenly applied, providing a durable and attractive finish. The 20-inch barrel felt substantial, and the overall construction inspired confidence.
I considered other 22LR AR conversion kits and dedicated uppers from manufacturers like Brownells and Tippmann Armory. I ultimately chose the CMMG due to its reputation for reliability and accuracy, based on online reviews and feedback from fellow shooters. The dedicated 22 ARC design, rather than a simple conversion, promised improved performance.
My initial impression was overwhelmingly positive. The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray looked and felt like a quality piece of equipment. I was excited to get it to the range and see if it lived up to its potential.
Real-World Testing: Putting CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray was at my local outdoor range. I mounted it on my existing AR-15 lower receiver and equipped it with a magnified optic for target shooting. The weather was clear and mild, ideal conditions for testing.
The CMMG performed flawlessly. I experienced no failures to feed or eject with a variety of 22LR ammunition, from bulk-pack plinking rounds to match-grade target loads. The trigger on my lower receiver was crisp and consistent, enhancing the accuracy potential of the CMMG upper. It proved easy to use and surprisingly accurate right out of the box.
The only surprise was the initial stiffness of the magazines. They required a bit of effort to load fully, but this improved with use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray continues to impress. I’ve used it extensively for target practice, small-game hunting (squirrels and rabbits), and training new shooters. It has proven remarkably reliable, even with less-than-premium ammunition.
Durability has also been excellent. The Cerakote finish has held up well to handling and exposure to the elements, with no signs of wear or corrosion. The barrel still looks pristine after hundreds of rounds.
Maintenance is straightforward. I clean the bore and bolt face after each range session, and occasionally lubricate the bolt carrier assembly. The CMMG is significantly easier to clean than a typical centerfire AR-15. Compared to my old Ruger 10/22, the CMMG is vastly superior in terms of accuracy and modularity. It has exceeded my expectations, becoming one of my favorite rifles.
