The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray Made a Bold First Impression
The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray arrived, and my first thought was, “This isn’t your grandpa’s .22.” CMMG has blended the familiarity of the AR platform with the affordability and low recoil of the .22 ARC cartridge in a package that promises serious fun and training potential. This rifle immediately appealed to me because I was seeking a versatile platform for introducing new shooters to the AR system without the intimidation factor of larger calibers and high recoil.
I’d been searching for a dedicated .22 LR AR-platform rifle that wasn’t just a conversion kit. The temptation to modify an existing AR-15 lower receiver with a .22LR conversion kit was tempting, but I wanted something purpose-built for the cartridge. The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray stood out due to its dedicated upper and lower receiver, designed from the ground up to optimize .22 ARC performance. Unboxing it, the Sniper Gray Cerakote finish gave it a professional, high-quality aesthetic, and the overall fit and finish were excellent.
I considered the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 Sport and the Tippmann Arms M4-22 Elite. I chose the CMMG because of its reputation for reliability and the promise of better accuracy due to its dedicated .22 ARC design and heavier barrel. The CMMG’s fit and finish also felt a step above the polymer receivers of the S&W and Tippmann models. I was definitely excited to get it to the range.
Real-World Testing: Putting CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray to the Test
First Use Experience
My first range trip with the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray was at my local outdoor range, under clear, sunny skies. I wanted to evaluate its accuracy and reliability with various .22 ARC ammunition types. The rifle handled beautifully, cycling rounds smoothly and exhibiting minimal recoil, which made it ideal for extended shooting sessions.
The CMMG performed flawlessly with CCI Mini-Mag and Federal AutoMatch ammunition. I had one minor hiccup with a bulk pack of Winchester Super-X, but I suspect it was more ammo-related than a rifle issue. The only surprise was how quickly I burned through my ammo supply, and I was having too much fun to notice the time.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ – Sniper Gray has proven to be a reliable and durable platform. There are only slight signs of wear on the Cerakote finish near the ejection port, but otherwise, it looks almost new. Cleaning is straightforward.
I use a standard AR-15 cleaning kit with a .22 bore brush and solvent. Regular cleaning is a must to prevent .22LR fouling buildup. It outperforms my expectations for a .22LR AR-platform rifle, offering better accuracy and a more refined shooting experience than any conversion kit I’ve tried.
