First Thoughts on the CMMG 28B3D0CMB Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ Upper – Midnight Bronze
The CMMG 28B3D0CMB Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ Upper – Midnight Bronze represents a significant offering in the realm of AR-15 platforms, specifically chambered in the potent 22 ARC cartridge. Crafted by CMMG, a reputable name in firearms manufacturing, this upper receiver assembly boasts a 20-inch barrel and a striking Midnight Bronze finish. Its promise lies in delivering enhanced accuracy and range compared to its shorter counterparts, all while chambering a relatively new and exciting cartridge.
My journey to this upper receiver started with a desire to extend the effective range of my AR platform without venturing into larger, more expensive calibers. I was looking for something that offered a flatter trajectory and better wind resistance than the .223/5.56 while still being manageable for longer range practice sessions. The 22 ARC seemed like the perfect solution.
The initial unboxing experience was impressive. The Midnight Bronze finish is even more stunning in person, giving the upper a premium aesthetic feel. The weight feels balanced and the build quality appears solid, indicative of CMMG’s commitment to quality manufacturing.
Compared to other potential options like a .223 Wylde upper or a 6.5 Grendel upper, the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC stood out due to its unique caliber and the promise of superior ballistics for its size. I also considered a similar upper from a smaller manufacturer, but CMMG’s reputation for reliability swayed my decision. My initial excitement was high, fueled by the promise of long-range accuracy in a semi-automatic platform.
Real-World Testing: Putting CMMG 28B3D0CMB Endeavor 22 ARC 20″ Upper – Midnight Bronze to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at a local shooting range with distances out to 600 yards. The weather was clear and mild, providing ideal conditions to assess the upper’s performance. I mounted the upper on a mil-spec lower receiver and paired it with a high-quality optic. The CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC cycled flawlessly straight out of the box.
The initial impressions were outstanding; the 22 ARC proved to be incredibly accurate, with tight groupings at 100 yards and consistent performance at longer ranges. The recoil was noticeably less than a .223/5.56, making it easier to maintain target acquisition for follow-up shots. There were no immediate issues after the first use, only a growing appreciation for the cartridge and the quality of the CMMG upper.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of consistent use, the CMMG Endeavor 22 ARC has continued to impress. I’ve put approximately 500 rounds through it and have experienced zero malfunctions. The Midnight Bronze finish has held up remarkably well, showing no signs of significant wear despite regular handling and cleaning.
Maintenance is straightforward; standard AR-15 cleaning procedures apply. The bore is easily accessible for cleaning, and the bolt assembly disassembles without any special tools. Comparing this upper to other AR-15 uppers I’ve owned, the CMMG stands out for its consistent reliability and accuracy. It outperforms my expectations for a mid-priced AR platform.
