Designed for use on the stern of the boat, it allows for a wider spread and more targeted fishing in various conditions. The Church Tackle Co. name is synonymous with quality in the planer board world, and I was eager to see if this offering lived up to that reputation.

My journey to this planer began with countless frustrating hours battling tangled lines and inconsistent lure depths while trolling for walleye on Lake Erie. Traditional inline planer boards worked well enough, but I needed a system that could handle heavier lures and cover more water effectively without the chaos of multiple lines running off the sides. I explored other stern planer options, but the Tx-007’s reputation for durability and ease of use swayed my decision.

Upon unboxing, the Tx-007 felt robust and well-constructed. The bright orange color ensured high visibility on the water. It also instilled immediate confidence with its solid construction, hinting at the durability Church Tackle Co. is known for. My initial impression was positive; this planer looked like it meant business.

Compared to cheaper, less durable stern planers I’ve used in the past, the Church Tackle Co. Tx-007 clearly felt superior. Others felt flimsy and had weak clips that failed under pressure. The Tx-007, on the other hand, had a reassuring heft and sturdy components that suggested it could handle the rigors of frequent use.

I was genuinely excited to put the Church Tackle Co. Tx-007 Stern Planer to the test. The promise of improved lure control and reduced tangles was exactly what I needed to elevate my walleye trolling game. This excitement was based on a solid foundation of expectation backed by the trusted Church Tackle Co. name.

Real-World Testing: Putting Church Tackle Co. Tx-007 Stern Planer to the Test

First Use Experience

My first outing with the Church Tackle Co. Tx-007 Stern Planer was on a blustery day on Lake Ontario, targeting lake trout. The chop was significant, and the wind made boat control challenging. I was keen to see how the planer would perform in less-than-ideal conditions.

Despite the rough water, the Tx-007 tracked remarkably well, holding its position off the stern without excessive wobble or diving. This stability allowed me to maintain a consistent lure presentation. It made handling both the planer and my lines noticeably easier. It required very little adjustment to maintain its tracking.

The initial setup took a few minutes to dial in the proper tow angle. However, once adjusted, it was incredibly easy to deploy and retrieve. I appreciated the simplicity of the design, which minimized the learning curve. It proved user-friendly right out of the box.

One minor surprise was the planer’s pull on the rod. I had to adjust my drag slightly to compensate. After that one adjustment, it handled my setup exceptionally well.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of consistent use, the Church Tackle Co. Tx-007 Stern Planer has become an indispensable part of my trolling setup. It continues to perform flawlessly. It has proven its reliability in a variety of weather conditions.

The Tx-007 shows minimal signs of wear and tear, even after repeated exposure to sun, saltwater, and the occasional accidental bump against the boat. The durable plastic construction has held up remarkably well. There are no cracks or signs of fading.

Maintenance is a breeze. A quick rinse with fresh water after each use is all it takes to keep the planer in top condition. The clips remain strong and corrosion-free. I anticipate years of service from the Church Tackle Co. Tx-007 Stern Planer.

In comparison to my previous experiences with inferior planer boards, the Tx-007 is a clear winner. Its durability, stability, and ease of use far surpass those of its competitors. This ultimately results in a more enjoyable and productive fishing experience.
