Real-World Testing: Putting Champion Traps and Targets Silhouette AR500 3/8In Pop-Up Targets to the Test
First Use Experience
The initial testing took place at my local shooting range, a controlled environment where I could assess the target’s performance with various pistol and rifle calibers. Conditions were relatively dry and clear, ideal for observing target reaction and assessing accuracy.
The target performed admirably, reliably popping up and self-correcting after each hit. There was a brief period of adjustment to the reactive nature of the target, but the immediate feedback proved invaluable for refining my shot placement.
After the initial use, there were no significant issues, although I did notice the importance of proper setup for optimal performance. Ensuring a stable and level base was crucial for consistent self-correction.
Extended Use & Reliability

Durability has been exceptional; the target continues to function flawlessly, with no degradation in the pop-up mechanism. Minor surface scratches are visible, but they are purely cosmetic and do not affect performance.
Maintenance is virtually non-existent. I periodically wipe down the target with a dry cloth to remove any residue, but no other maintenance is required.
Compared to past experiences with cheaper steel targets that warped or deformed over time, the Champion Traps and Targets Silhouette AR500 3/8In Pop-Up Targets significantly outperforms expectations. Its robust construction and reliable mechanism make it a worthwhile investment.
