First Impressions of Cerus Gear Magnum XXL 14×48 White Tail Bucks Fighting Promat
The Cerus Gear Magnum XXL 14×48 White Tail Bucks Fighting Promat immediately caught my eye with its promise of a spacious and protective workspace. As someone who regularly cleans and maintains firearms, a reliable and sizable cleaning mat is essential. The detailed image of fighting whitetail bucks also adds a touch of personality to my workbench.
My old cleaning mat was too small and offered little protection, frequently leading to accidental scratches on firearm components. I needed a mat that could accommodate larger firearms and provide ample space for tools and parts. That’s why the Cerus Gear Promat with its generous dimensions seemed like the perfect solution.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the size. At 14×48 inches, the Magnum XXL is significantly larger than any cleaning mat I’ve used before. The rubber backing feels durable and provides a non-slip surface. The printed image is vibrant and doesn’t appear to be easily scratched or worn off.
I had been considering a similar mat from Tekmat, known for their exploded diagrams, and another from Real Avid, which features compartmentalized sections for parts. Ultimately, the Cerus Gear won me over with its larger size and the appealing design, which breaks away from the typical technical schematics. The Cerus Gear Magnum XXL 14×48 White Tail Bucks Fighting Promat gave off an exciting, “ready to work” vibe.
Real-World Testing: Putting Cerus Gear Magnum XXL 14×48 White Tail Bucks Fighting Promat to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Cerus Gear Promat while cleaning my AR-15 after a dusty day at the range. The spacious surface easily accommodated the disassembled rifle, with plenty of room to spare for tools and cleaning supplies. The rubber base kept the mat firmly in place on my workbench, even when I was applying significant pressure while scrubbing the bolt carrier group.
The mat performed well in a slightly damp environment when I was cleaning my hunting shotgun after a rainy morning. The surface didn’t absorb any water, and the non-slip base prevented any movement on my workbench. I appreciated the ample space, as it allowed me to keep dirty parts separate from clean ones. There were no issues after the initial use and I was happy I chose this specific cleaning mat.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Cerus Gear Magnum XXL Promat has held up remarkably well. There are no signs of wear and tear, even in areas where I frequently place tools and parts. The printed image still looks vibrant and hasn’t faded or scratched.
Cleaning the mat is incredibly simple. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove any residue. For more stubborn stains, a mild detergent works wonders. Compared to my previous mat, which was difficult to clean and showed wear quickly, the Cerus Gear is a significant improvement. This has been a solid investment in maintaining my firearms.

Durability & Maintenance
Based on my experience so far, I expect the Cerus Gear Promat to last for many years. The materials are high-quality and the construction is solid. The mat is also easy to clean and maintain, requiring only a quick wipe down after use.
The solvent and oil-resistant nature of the mat is a major advantage. This prevents damage from harsh cleaning chemicals. The Cerus Gear is easy to maintain and repair; if damage ever occurred, one could simply replace it.
