Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 Review

The Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 Made a Bold First Impression

The Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 promises to elevate your AP5 pistol to the next level, offering a curated selection of essential accessories. As someone who’s spent years modifying and tweaking various tactical platforms, I was eager to see if this kit lived up to the hype. I’ve always been a proponent of optimizing existing gear for maximum performance, and a well-designed accessory kit is often the easiest way to do just that.

I was looking for a simple way to add functionality to my AP5 without breaking the bank. I wanted a sling mounting solution, a way to mount optics, and basic cleaning supplies. The promise of a flash hider also piqued my interest.

Upon unboxing, the kit presents a no-nonsense package. The components are functional in appearance, with everything neatly organized. The optic rail mount appeared robust, and the inclusion of a cleaning kit was a thoughtful touch.

Compared to piecing together individual accessories from different Century Arms suppliers, this kit offers a seemingly convenient and cost-effective solution. I considered buying a separate sling, mount, and cleaning kit, but the bundled price of the Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 was enticing. While other kits exist, many are significantly more expensive and include items I didn’t necessarily need.

My initial impression was cautiously optimistic. The components seemed well-made enough for the price, and the kit promised to address several immediate needs. I was excited to see how the accessories performed in a live-fire setting.

Real-World Testing: Putting Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 to the Test

First Use Experience

I tested the Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 at my local shooting range, focusing on the functionality of each included accessory. I wanted to assess the optic rail’s stability, the sling’s comfort and utility, and the flash hider’s impact on muzzle flash. The range offered a variety of shooting distances, allowing me to evaluate the setup’s overall performance.

The weather was clear and dry, providing ideal conditions for testing. I wanted to simulate realistic conditions, so future tests will include more diverse weather. The single hook sling proved easy to attach, and the optic rail mounted securely to the receiver.

The sling proved comfortable and functional, providing improved weapon retention. The flash hider appeared to slightly reduce muzzle flash, although a more controlled environment would be needed for precise measurements. I did not encounter any major issues after the initial use.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several weeks of regular use, the Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 has held up reasonably well. I’ve used the sling on multiple range trips and during some light hiking exercises. The optic rail has remained securely mounted, and the flash hider has continued to perform as expected.

The sling shows minor signs of wear but no significant damage. The optic rail has maintained its zero, suggesting good durability. The cleaning kit has been used regularly, and the components seem adequately robust.

Compared to previous slings and optic mounts I’ve used, the Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 performs adequately for its price point. High-end alternatives undoubtedly offer superior performance and durability, but this kit provides a solid, affordable upgrade. It has not disappointed me thus far.

Performance & Functionality

The Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 generally performs its intended functions adequately. The sling offers a secure and comfortable way to carry the AP5, especially when maneuvering in tight spaces. The sling is simple but effective, though lacking in adjustability. The optic rail is robust and holds zero well, but may require some initial tightening. The flash hider provides a noticeable reduction in flash signature, but the effect is not dramatic.

The kit mostly meets my expectations for a budget-friendly accessory package. There is definitely room for improvement, but it does what it is supposed to do. It provides a practical and affordable upgrade to the AP5.

Design & Ergonomics

The build quality of the Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 is adequate for its price point. The materials used are functional, but not exceptionally high-end. The overall design is straightforward and user-friendly.

The kit is reasonably user-friendly, with no significant learning curve. The sling attaches easily, the optic rail mounts with minimal effort, and the cleaning kit is straightforward to use. The weight of the kit is minimal and does not significantly impact the overall handling of the AP5.

Durability & Maintenance

The durability of the Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 appears to be adequate for typical use. With proper care, the components should last for a reasonable amount of time. However, heavy use or exposure to harsh conditions may accelerate wear and tear.

The sling may eventually fray or wear out with repeated use. The optic rail should withstand normal recoil forces, but may be susceptible to scratches or dents. The cleaning kit components are relatively durable, but the plastic case may crack or break if mishandled.

Maintenance is straightforward, primarily involving cleaning the components as needed. The optic rail may require occasional tightening of screws. The sling can be washed with mild soap and water.

Accessories and Customization Options

The Century Arms AP5 Accessory Kit for Full Size 8.9″ AP5 comes with the sling, cleaning kit, optic rail, and flash hider. There are limited customization options within the kit itself. However, the optic rail allows for the use of a wide range of aftermarket optics.

The optic rail is compatible with any optic that utilizes a standard Picatinny mount. Users can choose from a variety of red dot sights, holographic sights, scopes, and other aiming devices. The flash hider can be replaced with other muzzle devices, such as compensators or suppressors, depending on legal restrictions and personal preferences.
