Its aluminum construction, coupled with a smooth coating and a black follower, immediately suggests durability and consistent performance at an affordable price point.
My search for a dependable magazine that could handle both 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout rounds in my AR-15 led me to the DURAMAG. I was specifically seeking a magazine that wouldn’t swell or flex, a common issue I’ve encountered with polymer magazines during extended storage, especially when fully loaded.
The initial unboxing revealed a magazine that felt solid and well-constructed. The bronze finish is aesthetically pleasing and appears to be evenly applied, while the black follower provides a clear visual contrast, making it easy to check for an empty magazine. The weight felt appropriate, neither too heavy nor too light, giving me confidence in its durability.
I considered other magazines from brands like Magpul and Lancer, known for their polymer offerings, and SureFeed, which are reputable aluminum magazines. However, the DURAMAG‘s ability to handle both 5.56 and .300 Blackout was a significant selling point, along with the attractive price tag.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The magazine looked and felt promising, but the true test would be in its performance on the range. I was excited to see how it would hold up.

The DURAMAG required no break-in period. It functioned flawlessly from the very first round.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several range sessions spanning a few months, the DURAMAG has proven to be a reliable performer. It consistently feeds both 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout rounds without issue.
The bronze finish has held up well, with only minor signs of wear around the feed lips. The 6061-T6 aluminum construction shows no signs of bending or deformation, even after being dropped on hard surfaces. Cleaning is simple; a quick wipe-down with a CLP-soaked rag is usually sufficient.
