Let’s Dive into Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil
For years, the AK platform has been synonymous with rugged reliability and raw power. One thing it hasn’t been associated with is ease of magazine loading, until now, thanks to the Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil. This seemingly simple device from Butler Creek promises to alleviate the thumb-punishing chore of filling AK and Galil magazines, and I was eager to put it to the test.
My experiences leading tactical firearms courses frequently exposed me to the struggles of new shooters battling stiff AK magazine springs. My hope was that the Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil could streamline the training process, minimizing frustration and maximizing range time.
Upon unboxing, the loader felt surprisingly robust for its price point. The polymer construction appeared durable, and the design, while utilitarian, seemed thoughtfully engineered to interface with a variety of magazine types. It was lightweight and compact enough to easily stow in a range bag.
I considered other options like the Maglula AK Loader, known for its higher price and robust design, and cheaper generic loaders of questionable quality. I chose the Butler Creek because it seemed to strike a balance between affordability and functionality, a middle ground that appealed to my practical sensibilities. My initial impression was cautiously optimistic. The Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil looked like a potential game-changer, but only range time would reveal its true worth.
Real-World Testing: Putting Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil to the Test
First Use Experience
My first trial with the Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil occurred at my local outdoor range. I brought along a variety of AK magazines – steel surplus, polymer Magpul PMAGs, and even a couple of Galil magazines – to assess its universality. The weather was typical for the area: hot and dusty.
The loader performed admirably across most magazine types. It quickly locked onto the top of each magazine, and the single-round loading mechanism proved far faster than manually pressing rounds into the mag. I noticed it took a bit of practice to find the sweet spot of pressure and angle. The loader occasionally slipped off the magazine during initial use, particularly with heavily worn surplus mags, due to tolerance differences.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several range sessions spanning a few months, the Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil continues to hold up surprisingly well. There are no visible signs of cracking or significant wear, even after repeated use and being tossed into my range bag. Maintenance is essentially nonexistent. A quick wipe-down with a dry cloth is all that’s needed to remove dust and grime.
Compared to my previous method of manual loading, the Butler Creek Asap Magazine Loader Universal AK47 / Galil is a significant upgrade. It drastically reduces loading time and eliminates the sore thumbs that were a constant annoyance during high-volume shooting days. It has proven itself a valuable tool for anyone who spends significant time at the range with an AK or Galil.
