First Thoughts on the Burris 2-7x 32mm Plex Reticle Nickel Handgun Scope
The Burris 2-7x 32mm Plex Reticle Nickel Handgun Scope promises a blend of classic aesthetics and modern optical performance, specifically tailored for handgun enthusiasts. The nickel finish gives it a distinctive look, while the variable zoom and Burris‘ reputation for quality optics suggest solid performance. This scope aims to enhance the accuracy and effective range of handguns, particularly for hunting or target shooting applications.
For years, I’ve struggled with consistent accuracy beyond 50 yards with my hunting handguns. Iron sights are sufficient for close-range work, but the challenge of aging eyes and longer shots made me seek an optic solution, eventually leading me to the Burris offering. I needed a scope that could withstand the recoil of magnum cartridges, maintain zero, and provide a clear sight picture in various lighting conditions. The combination of variable magnification and a durable build piqued my interest.
Unboxing the Burris 2-7x 32mm Plex Reticle Nickel Handgun Scope revealed a surprisingly compact and robust piece of equipment. The nickel finish is striking and appears to be applied evenly and durably. The scope feels solid in hand, suggesting a quality build that can withstand the rigors of field use and recoil.
I considered a few alternatives, including models from Leupold and Bushnell, but Burris‘ reputation for handgun scopes and the classic look of the nickel finish swayed my decision. Leupold’s options were pricier, and the Bushnell models lacked the aesthetic appeal I desired for this particular handgun. The Burris seemed to offer the best balance of performance, aesthetics, and value.
My initial reaction was one of cautious optimism. The scope looked fantastic and felt well-made, but the real test would be how it performed on the range and in the field. I was excited to see if it could live up to its promises and improve my handgun accuracy.
Real-World Testing: Putting Burris 2-7x 32mm Plex Reticle Nickel Handgun Scope to the Test
First Use Experience
I mounted the Burris 2-7x 32mm Plex Reticle Nickel Handgun Scope on my Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum and headed to my local shooting range. The range offered both covered and uncovered lanes, simulating various lighting conditions. I primarily tested the scope at distances ranging from 25 to 100 yards.
The scope performed admirably even in bright sunlight, providing a clear and crisp sight picture with minimal glare. The plex reticle was easy to acquire and offered a precise aiming point for various distances. Adjusting the magnification from 2x to 7x was smooth and provided a noticeable improvement in target clarity at longer ranges.
The first few shots revealed that the eye relief was somewhat sensitive, requiring precise head placement to obtain a full field of view. Once I found the sweet spot, however, the image quality was impressive. There were no immediate issues, but I was keen to see how the scope would hold zero after repeated recoil.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including multiple range trips and a successful deer hunt, the Burris 2-7x 32mm Plex Reticle Nickel Handgun Scope has proven to be a reliable performer. It has held zero consistently despite the heavy recoil of the .44 Magnum. There have been no signs of internal fogging or any other optical issues.
The nickel finish has proven to be quite durable, showing only minor signs of wear in areas that come into contact with the holster. Cleaning the scope is straightforward, requiring only a soft cloth and lens cleaner. I carefully clean the lenses after each range session.
Compared to my previous experiences with iron sights, the Burris scope offers a significant improvement in accuracy and effective range. I can now confidently take shots at distances that were previously impossible. It has exceeded my expectations for a handgun scope in this price range.
