First Thoughts on the Burris 2-7x 32mm Ballistic Plex Reticle Handgun Scope
The Burris 2-7x 32mm Ballistic Plex Reticle Handgun Scope aims to bring rifle-like precision to handgun hunting and target shooting. Burris has a reputation for rugged optics, and this scope promises to deliver that same reliability in a smaller package. Its variable magnification and Ballistic Plex reticle are designed to extend effective handgun ranges.
I was looking for a scope that could handle the recoil of my .44 Magnum and offer improved accuracy at distances beyond what I could achieve with iron sights alone. The need was clear: to enhance my handgun hunting capabilities and consistently hit targets at 100 yards and beyond. The Burris scope seemed like a natural fit for this objective.
Out of the box, the scope feels solid and well-constructed. Its matte finish gives it a non-reflective surface, and the adjustments feel positive and precise. It has a reassuring weight that suggests durability.
Compared to other handgun scopes I considered, such as those from Leupold and Bushnell, the Burris stood out due to its combination of magnification range and the Ballistic Plex reticle. This reticle provides holdover points for longer-range shots, something the other scopes lacked. My first impression was one of cautious optimism. I was excited to see if it would live up to its potential on the range and in the field.
Real-World Testing: Putting Burris 2-7x 32mm Ballistic Plex Reticle Handgun Scope to the Test
First Use Experience
My first experience with the Burris 2-7x 32mm Ballistic Plex Reticle Handgun Scope was at my local shooting range, mounted on my trusty Super Redhawk .44 Magnum. The range offered distances out to 100 yards, the exact range I wanted to test. Initial adjustments were straightforward, and I quickly zeroed the scope at 50 yards.
During that first session, the weather was mild, but a slight crosswind presented a minor challenge. The scope handled the recoil of the .44 Magnum without issue, and the image remained clear throughout the magnification range. The eye relief was generous, preventing any contact between the scope and my brow, even with heavy loads.
Ease of use was excellent. The magnification ring turned smoothly, and the reticle was easy to see, even in bright sunlight. There were no unexpected issues during the first session, just a growing confidence in the scope’s ability to improve my accuracy.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, including a full deer season, the Burris 2-7x 32mm Ballistic Plex Reticle Handgun Scope has proven to be a reliable and durable optic. It has held zero consistently, even after repeated exposure to recoil and changes in temperature. I’ve taken it on several hunts in varied weather conditions.
Durability has been impressive, with only minor cosmetic wear on the finish. The scope has survived bumps and scrapes in the field without any noticeable impact on performance. Maintenance has been simple: a quick wipe down with a lens cloth is all that’s needed to keep the optics clean and clear.
Compared to my previous experiences with iron sights and lower-quality optics, the Burris scope is a significant upgrade. It has extended my effective range and improved my confidence in making ethical shots on game at longer distances. It noticeably outperforms the cheaper optics I used previously.
