The Browning Sling Outfitter w/Metal QD Swivels, Ovix – 1 out of 6 models promises a blend of durability and convenience for the modern outdoorsman. As someone who’s slung rifles across continents and depended on my gear in demanding environments, a reliable sling is not a luxury – it’s essential. This particular sling, boasting metal QD swivels and an Ovix finish, caught my attention as a potential upgrade from my well-worn, but increasingly unreliable, nylon strap.
I needed a sling that could withstand the rigors of backcountry hunts and the wear and tear of regular range use. My old sling’s plastic buckles were constantly slipping, and the webbing frayed easily against rough terrain. The promise of metal QD swivels on the Browning Sling Outfitter w/Metal QD Swivels, Ovix suggested a more secure and robust carrying solution.
Upon unboxing, the Browning Sling Outfitter felt substantial, despite its reasonable weight. The Ovix material had a textured feel, hinting at good grip and resistance to slippage. The metal QD swivels appeared well-made and clicked into place with a satisfyingly solid engagement.
Compared to simpler nylon slings or even some padded alternatives, the Browning stood out for its seemingly robust construction and the premium feel of the metal hardware. I previously considered a Magpul MS4 sling, known for its adaptability, and a Viking Tactics VTAC sling, favored for quick adjustability. However, the Browning’s straightforward design and focus on durable components, coupled with its attractive price point, ultimately won me over.
My first impression was one of cautious optimism. The sling looked and felt like a quality product, but the true test would come in the field. I was eager to see if the Browning Sling Outfitter w/Metal QD Swivels, Ovix could live up to its promise of reliability and comfort under real-world conditions.

The sling performed admirably in these varied conditions. The Ovix material provided a secure grip, preventing the rifle from slipping on my shoulder, even when wet. The metal QD swivels held firmly, inspiring confidence that my rifle wasn’t going anywhere unintentionally.
Initially, the sling felt a little stiff, but it quickly conformed to my body with use. I did notice a slight squeaking sound from the QD swivels when moving, but a little lubrication seemed to alleviate that issue. Overall, the first use was a positive experience, showcasing the sling’s potential as a reliable hunting companion.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Browning Sling Outfitter has proven to be a durable and dependable piece of gear. It has accompanied me on multiple range trips, a turkey hunt in the spring, and several long hikes. The Ovix material shows no signs of significant wear and tear, despite being exposed to mud, rain, and sun.
The metal QD swivels continue to function flawlessly, providing a secure and convenient attachment point. I’ve cleaned the sling a few times with a damp cloth and mild soap, which has been sufficient to remove dirt and grime. The sling maintains its shape and functionality without requiring any special maintenance.
