The Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo Made a Bold First Impression
As a seasoned outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve seen countless slings promising comfort and reliability. But the Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo, from the renowned manufacturer Browning, immediately caught my eye with its promise of blending sleek design with practical functionality. The comfortable molded non-slip foam shoulder pad and rubberized non-slip backing seemed like a recipe for a sling that stays put and feels great, even on long treks.
My aging shoulder has been the bane of my existence during hunting season. Traditional slings dug in, causing pain and fatigue after only a few hours in the field. I needed a sling that could evenly distribute the weight of my rifle and provide all-day comfort, without sacrificing quick adjustability.
Upon unboxing, the Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo felt surprisingly lightweight, yet robust. The Ovix camo pattern is aesthetically pleasing, blending well with various environments, and the materials felt durable. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the metal swivels, a detail often overlooked in budget-friendly slings.
I had been considering a padded sling from Viking Tactics and another from Magpul, both reputable brands. However, the Browning sling’s combination of features, including the thumb loop for easy handling and quick adjustment, at a considerably lower price point, swayed my decision. The other slings had comparable comfort features, but at nearly double the cost.
My initial reaction was cautiously optimistic. The Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo appeared to be a well-designed and constructed sling, but the true test would come in the field. I was eager to see if it could live up to its promises of comfort and reliability.
Real-World Testing: Putting Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo to the Test
First Use Experience
My first outing with the Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo was a pheasant hunt in the rolling hills of South Dakota. The weather was crisp, with a slight drizzle threatening to turn into a full-blown downpour. This provided a perfect opportunity to test the sling’s non-slip properties in less-than-ideal conditions.
The sling performed admirably. The rubberized non-slip backing kept the sling firmly in place on my shoulder, even when navigating uneven terrain and scrambling over fences. The thumb loop proved invaluable for quick adjustments when transitioning from walking to mounting my shotgun. There were no slippage issues or unexpected adjustments required during the hunt.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of use, including multiple hunting trips and range sessions, the Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo has proven to be a reliable and comfortable companion. The sling shows no signs of significant wear and tear, despite being exposed to mud, rain, and the occasional brush with thorny bushes. The seams are still intact, and the foam padding retains its shape and cushioning.
Cleaning the sling is a breeze. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is usually sufficient to remove dirt and grime. The metal swivels remain rust-free and operate smoothly. Compared to my previous experience with a cheap nylon sling that frayed and became uncomfortable after just a few uses, the Browning Range Pro Sling Ovix Camo is a significant upgrade in terms of both comfort and durability.
