The Breakthrough Clean Technologies Badge Series Cleaning Kit For 5.56 NATO Made a Bold First Impression
Finding the right cleaning kit for my AR-15 has always been a bit of a quest. After years of using various kits that were either too bulky, missing essential components, or just plain ineffective, I was on the hunt for something more comprehensive and streamlined. The Breakthrough Clean Technologies Badge Series Cleaning Kit For 5.56 NATO promised exactly that: a complete, organized solution for keeping my 5.56 NATO rifles in top condition.
My main problem was portability and completeness. I needed a kit I could easily throw in my range bag without sacrificing essential tools. The Breakthrough kit aims to solve both, and that piqued my interest.
Upon unboxing, I was immediately impressed by the compact MOLLE pouch. The kit felt well-organized, and the included components seemed to be of decent quality. It felt purpose built and like it would get the job done.
I’ve used Hoppe’s kits in the past, and while they are reliable, they lack the organizational aspect. Similarly, Otis Technology kits are great for field cleaning, but they can be pricey. I chose the Breakthrough Clean Technologies Badge Series Cleaning Kit For 5.56 NATO because it seemed to strike a balance between completeness, portability, and value.
My first impression was positive. I was excited to put it to the test and see if it lived up to its promises.
Real-World Testing: Putting Breakthrough Clean Technologies Badge Series Cleaning Kit For 5.56 NATO to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Breakthrough Clean Technologies Badge Series Cleaning Kit For 5.56 NATO at my local outdoor shooting range. It was a fairly typical range day with moderate temperatures and slightly dusty conditions. I ran approximately 200 rounds through my AR-15 before using the cleaning kit.
The kit proved to be remarkably easy to use. The included cleaning rod and cable system offered versatility for cleaning from the chamber or muzzle. The all-in-one cleaner/lubricant seemed effective at removing carbon fouling, and the various brushes and jags addressed every nook and cranny of the rifle.
There weren’t any major issues during the first use, but I did notice that the cleaning patches were a bit thin. This required using more patches than I initially anticipated to achieve a thorough clean.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several weeks of consistent use, the Breakthrough Clean Technologies Badge Series Cleaning Kit For 5.56 NATO has held up reasonably well. The MOLLE pouch shows no signs of wear and tear, and all the components remain securely in place. The cleaning rod sections are still straight and the cable system hasn’t frayed.
The brushes and jags show some signs of use, but nothing that impacts their effectiveness. The all-in-one cleaner/lubricant continues to perform well, and I appreciate having a single product for both cleaning and lubrication.
Compared to my previous experience with generic cleaning kits, the Breakthrough kit is a definite improvement. It’s more organized, more complete, and seems to offer a higher level of cleaning performance. However, it doesn’t quite reach the premium feel of more expensive kits, but it also doesn’t carry the larger price tag either.
