My old factory stock on my CZ 527 Varmint had seen better days; it was scratched, faded, and frankly, not very comfortable during long range sessions. I wanted something that would improve the rifle’s accuracy and ergonomics, while also giving it a fresh, modern look. The reviews and reputation of Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks led me to this particular model.
Upon unboxing, the first thing I noticed was the weight and feel of the wood. It felt solid and substantial, a clear upgrade from the polymer stock I was replacing. The laminate construction promised stability and resistance to warping, important for consistent accuracy.
I considered a few other options, including synthetic stocks from other manufacturers, but I was drawn to the classic appeal of hardwood. First Use Experience
My first outing with the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks SS Evolution CZ 527 Varmint Short Action Detachable Box Magazine Heavy Barrel Channel Stock was at my local shooting range, primarily focused on dialing in my scope at 100 yards. The weather was mild and sunny, providing ideal conditions for testing. The stability and improved ergonomics of the stock were immediately noticeable.

I noticed a reduction in felt recoil, likely due to the added weight of the hardwood stock. This allowed me to stay on target easier and focus on consistent shot placement.
The only minor issue I encountered was the slightly tighter fit around the action compared to the original stock. This required a bit of extra care during installation, but it ultimately resulted in a more secure and stable fit. Other than that, the initial experience was overwhelmingly positive.
