Let’s Talk About Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks SS Evolution CZ 452 .22 Magnum Bull Barrel Channel Stock
For decades, the CZ 452 has been a beloved rifle, particularly in .22 Magnum, known for its accuracy and reliability. Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks steps in to elevate that experience with their SS Evolution CZ 452 .22 Magnum Bull Barrel Channel Stock, promising enhanced ergonomics and aesthetics. This stock aims to improve upon the factory setup, offering a more comfortable and visually appealing platform for a trusted rifle.
I was looking for a way to enhance the accuracy and feel of my CZ 452 .22 Magnum. The factory stock, while functional, lacked the rigidity and ergonomics I desired for precision shooting. I craved a stock that could better support a bull barrel and offer a more stable platform for consistent shot placement.
The Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stock arrived well-packaged, immediately showcasing the quality of the laminated hardwood. The weight felt substantial, hinting at the increased stability it would provide, and the finish was smooth and even. The ambidextrous palm swell was a welcome touch, suggesting enhanced comfort for both right- and left-handed shooters.
Compared to the factory polymer stock and a basic walnut stock I had previously considered, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks option stood out due to its bull barrel channel and SS Evolution design. The bull barrel channel promised perfect fit for my .22 Magnum, while the Evolution design seemed to offer a more modern and ergonomic feel than standard aftermarket stocks. Its laminate construction also suggested greater stability and resistance to warping compared to solid wood stocks.
My initial impression was one of excitement. The craftsmanship appeared excellent, and the design seemed well-thought-out, holding the promise of transforming my CZ 452 into a precision instrument. I was particularly eager to see how the stock would improve my stability and consistency when shooting groups at the range.
Real-World Testing: Putting Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks SS Evolution CZ 452 .22 Magnum Bull Barrel Channel Stock to the Test
First Use Experience
I first tested the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stock at my local outdoor shooting range, a place I frequent to test my builds. I focused on benchrest shooting at 50 and 100 yards to assess its impact on accuracy. The weather was mild, with a slight breeze, providing relatively stable shooting conditions.
The most immediate difference was the improved stability provided by the heavier, more rigid stock. The ambidextrous palm swell filled my hand comfortably, allowing for a consistent grip and reducing felt recoil, even though the .22 Magnum already produces minimal kick. The bull barrel channel perfectly accommodated my rifle’s barrel, ensuring free-floating accuracy.
Installation was straightforward, requiring only basic tools and about 15 minutes of my time. After a quick zero, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stock immediately tightened my groups. I experienced no unforeseen issues, and the stock performed flawlessly right out of the box.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of use, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stock has held up remarkably well. Despite multiple trips to the range and exposure to varying weather conditions, there are no signs of warping, cracking, or finish degradation. The laminated hardwood construction proves its worth by providing excellent dimensional stability.
The stock has proven highly durable, with only minor cosmetic wear from handling and transport. The finish is easy to clean and resists scratches, maintaining its attractive appearance even after regular use. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is all that is needed to keep it looking its best.
Compared to my previous experiences with factory polymer stocks, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stock has significantly improved my shooting experience. The increased stability, enhanced ergonomics, and improved aesthetics make it a worthwhile upgrade. It has transformed my CZ 452 from a reliable plinker into a precision instrument capable of consistent accuracy at longer ranges.
