Let’s Talk About Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock PV Savage Axis Detachable Box Mag Long Action LH Act FBC
The Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock PV Savage Axis Detachable Box Mag Long Action LH Act FBC is a meticulously crafted, aftermarket stock designed for left-handed shooters seeking to enhance the ergonomics, aesthetics, and overall shooting experience of their Savage Axis long-action rifle. Manufactured by Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks, a renowned name in the industry, this particular stock promises a blend of classic appeal and modern functionality. It boasts a factory barrel channel, compatibility with detachable box magazines, and a sleek black texture paint finish.
I was looking for a way to improve the handling and accuracy of my Savage Axis. The original stock felt flimsy and lacked the solid feel I prefer, plus, as a left-handed shooter, finding truly comfortable and functional options can sometimes be a challenge.
Upon unboxing, the immediate impression was one of quality; the wood felt solid and well-finished, and the black texture paint provided a nice, grippy surface. The weight felt substantial, promising a more stable shooting platform compared to the factory stock.
Compared to a polymer stock from Magpul or a laminate stock from another manufacturer, the Boyds stock offered a more traditional aesthetic. I chose this option specifically for the classic look and the reputation of Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks for producing high-quality, durable stocks.
My initial reaction was excitement; the stock looked and felt like a significant upgrade, and I was eager to see how it would perform in the field. I was hopeful that this would truly transform my Savage Axis into a more accurate and enjoyable rifle to shoot.

First Use Experience
I first tested the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock PV Savage Axis Detachable Box Mag Long Action LH Act FBC at my local shooting range, focusing on benchrest accuracy and general handling. The range provided a controlled environment to assess how the stock improved my rifle’s performance.
Despite clear skies, the range visit coincided with gusty winds that would have negatively affected the performance of the original stock. The new stock provided a much more stable platform, making it easier to maintain a consistent hold and reduce the impact of external elements.
Installing the stock was straightforward, and the improved ergonomics were immediately noticeable. The fit and finish were excellent, and the rifle felt much more balanced in my hands.
After my first range session, I was thrilled with the difference the Boyds stock made; however, the black texture paint seemed to scuff easier than I expected. It wasn’t a deal breaker, but something I took note of for future use.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of regular use, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock PV Savage Axis Detachable Box Mag Long Action LH Act FBC has proven to be a worthwhile upgrade. It continues to provide a stable and comfortable shooting experience.
There are a few minor scratches in the black texture paint, especially around the action and magazine well, but otherwise, the stock has held up very well. The wood itself remains solid and free of cracks or warping.
Cleaning is straightforward; a quick wipe down with a damp cloth removes most dirt and grime. I occasionally apply a light coat of wood oil to maintain the finish and prevent drying.
Compared to my previous experiences with factory synthetic stocks, the Boyds stock offers a significantly improved feel and level of control. The enhanced ergonomics and stable platform have definitely improved my shooting accuracy and enjoyment.
