Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Winchester 70 Short Action 1 Piece Floor Plate FBC Review

Let’s Talk About Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Winchester 70 Short Action 1 Piece Floor Plate FBC

The Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Winchester 70 Short Action 1 Piece Floor Plate FBC is a drop-in replacement stock designed to breathe new life into your trusty Winchester 70. Manufactured by Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks, this “At-One” model boasts an adjustable length-of-pull and comb height, offering a custom fit previously unheard of in a wood stock at this price point. The Applejack laminate finish provides a classic look with enhanced durability, making it a visually appealing and practical upgrade.

My own Winchester 70, a family heirloom passed down from my grandfather, was showing its age. The original stock, while sentimental, no longer provided the consistent cheek weld and comfortable shooting experience I needed for accurate shots at varying distances. I wanted a stock that honored the rifle’s legacy while offering modern adjustability without sacrificing the classic feel of wood.

Upon unboxing, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Winchester 70 Short Action 1 Piece Floor Plate FBC made a strong first impression. The Applejack laminate was beautifully finished, showcasing the natural wood grain and offering a solid, reassuring weight. It felt significantly more robust than the factory synthetic stocks I’ve handled on other rifles.

I considered a few other options, including a fully adjustable chassis system from MDT and a traditional McMillan fiberglass stock. The MDT chassis felt too tactical for this particular rifle, while the McMillan, though renowned for its quality, lacked the on-the-fly adjustability of the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Winchester 70 Short Action 1 Piece Floor Plate FBC. The Boyds offered the perfect balance of classic aesthetics and modern features.

My initial excitement was tempered with a slight reservation about the “drop-in” nature of the stock. I’ve had mixed experiences with aftermarket stocks, and I was hoping this one would live up to its claim of requiring minimal fitting. Overall, though, my first impression was overwhelmingly positive.
