Let’s Talk About Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 220 Slug Gun Detachable Box Mag Long Action FBC
The Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 220 Slug Gun Detachable Box Mag Long Action FBC isn’t just a replacement stock; it’s a complete transformation for your Savage 220 slug gun. This Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks offering aims to provide enhanced ergonomics, improved accuracy, and a touch of personalized style for the dedicated slug gun hunter.
Like many serious whitetail hunters in the Midwest, I rely on a dedicated slug gun for deer season. The factory stock on my Savage 220, while functional, always felt a bit… lacking.
When I first unboxed the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 220 Slug Gun Detachable Box Mag Long Action FBC, I was immediately struck by the quality of the wood and the seamless integration of the thumbhole design. The fit and finish appeared excellent, promising a significant upgrade over the original synthetic stock.
Compared to other aftermarket stocks I’ve considered – like those from Hogue or McMillan – the Boyds stock stood out due to its combination of classic aesthetics and modern ergonomics at a more accessible price point. The Hogue stock is functional but lacks visual appeal. The McMillan is an excellent stock, but comes at a substantial cost increase.
My first impression was a mix of excitement and anticipation. Could this stock truly improve my slug gun’s performance and handling in the field? Time would tell.
Real-World Testing: Putting Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 220 Slug Gun Detachable Box Mag Long Action FBC to the Test
First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at my local shooting range, under typically dreary November skies. I wanted to get a feel for the stock’s ergonomics and how it affected my shooting form with the Savage 220.
The Boyds stock performed admirably, even with a light drizzle making the wood slightly slick. The thumbhole design naturally aligned my hand for a consistent grip, promoting better trigger control. There were no initial issues encountered during that testing period.
The increased stability and improved cheek weld made a noticeable difference right away. Recoil felt more manageable, likely due to the stock’s increased weight and improved distribution of the recoil energy.
Extended Use & Reliability
After a full deer season of rigorous use, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Rifle Stock At One Thumbhole Savage 220 Slug Gun Detachable Box Mag Long Action FBC has proven its worth. It held up admirably to the rough handling and unpredictable weather of the Wisconsin woods.
I’ve noticed no significant wear and tear, aside from some minor scuffs that add character to the Applejack finish. The Boyds stock is relatively easy to clean, requiring only a wipe-down with a damp cloth and occasional treatment with a quality wood protectant.
Compared to my previous experiences with the factory stock, the Boyds stock offers a clear improvement in both comfort and accuracy. The increased confidence it instills has definitely translated to more successful hunts.
