Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks has a reputation for crafting quality hardwood stocks, and this Pro Varmint model for the Savage B-Mag is no exception. This particular stock is designed to enhance accuracy and stability, featuring a varmint-style profile perfect for those precision shots.
I’d been struggling with the factory stock on my Savage B-Mag for years. While the rifle itself was accurate, the flimsy synthetic stock felt cheap and didn’t provide a solid platform for consistent shooting, especially in windy conditions. I needed something that would add weight, improve ergonomics, and ultimately boost my confidence when taking those long-range shots at varmints.
Unboxing the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Pro Varmint Savage B-Mag Detachable Box Mag Short Action Factory Barrel Channel Stock was a refreshing experience. The immediate impression was one of quality and heft. The weight of the hardwood felt substantial and the black textured paint provided a nice, grippy surface.
I considered a few other options, including a chassis system from a different manufacturer, and a laminated wood stock from another well-known brand. Ultimately, the classic look and feel of the Boyds hardwood, coupled with its reputation for accurate inletting, swayed me. The chassis system felt too tactical for what I wanted, and the laminated stock felt less traditional than solid hardwood.
My first impression was excitement tempered with anticipation. The stock looked fantastic, but the real test would be how it felt and performed on the range. I was eager to see if it lived up to my expectations and improved my shooting accuracy.
