This stock offers a blend of classic aesthetics and modern features, promising enhanced accuracy and ergonomics for Remington 700 short action rifles.
I was drawn to this particular stock because I wanted to upgrade my aging hunting rifle with something that offered better stability and a more comfortable shooting experience, especially since I’m a left-handed shooter and options are often limited. After years of dealing with factory synthetic stocks that felt flimsy and lacked proper cheek weld, I wanted a solid hardwood option with improved bedding.
Upon unboxing, the Boyds stock immediately impressed me with its heft and the smooth, even finish of the hardwood. The full-length aluminum bedding block gave a sense of rigidity and quality, promising a significant improvement over the flexible plastic stock I was replacing.
I considered alternatives like the Bell and Carlson Medalist or the HS Precision Pro-Series, but the Boyds stock offered a better balance of features and affordability for my needs. The classic Prairie Hunter design appealed to my preference for a traditional hunting rifle aesthetic, while the inclusion of a detachable box magazine compatibility was a welcome bonus.

First Use Experience
I tested the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Prairie Hunter Remington 700 PTG Short Action Detachable Box Mag Left Hand Factory Barrel Channel Stock at my local shooting range, focusing on accuracy and handling. I needed minimal time to adjust to the new stock, finding the classic pistol grip and raised cheek rest naturally comfortable.
The only minor issue was the initial stiffness of the detachable box magazine, but it loosened up after a few uses. Overall, the first range session was a resounding success.
