As a southpaw myself, finding quality left-handed gear has always been a quest. My search for a stock that offered both improved ergonomics and a classic aesthetic for my Zastava M70 led me to this Boyds stock. I was looking for something that could tame the recoil and enhance my accuracy, while also adding a personal touch to my rifle.
The stock arrived well-packaged, and my initial impression was positive. The wood grain was attractive, and the overall build seemed solid. Comparing it to the factory synthetic stock, the Boyds offering immediately felt more substantial and premium.
I had been considering a chassis system, but the classic look of a wood stock won me over. The thumbhole design was a known quantity for me, having used similar stocks on other rifles, so I was excited to see how it would perform on my Zastava M70. Initial thoughts were excitement tempered with a little apprehension about the fitting process – wood stocks can sometimes require minor adjustments.

First Use Experience
My initial testing took place at my local outdoor shooting range, under relatively mild weather conditions. The thumbhole design provided a secure and repeatable grip, making recoil management significantly easier. The factory barrel channel fit my barrel perfectly, eliminating the need for any immediate modifications. The improved ergonomics allowed me to maintain consistent shot placement, even during rapid firing strings.
I did notice that the stock felt slightly heavier than the factory stock, which initially caused a bit of fatigue during extended shooting sessions. However, the added weight contributed to greater stability and reduced muzzle rise. No major issues arose during this first outing, just a familiarization process.
