As an experienced outdoor and tactical gear specialist, I’ve handled my fair share of firearms and their components. Among these components, the stock is arguably the most crucial in terms of comfort, accuracy, and overall shooting experience. Today, I’m diving deep into the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Featherweight Thumbhole Remington 700 BDL Long Action Left Hand Stock Left Hand Action Factory Barrel Channel.
My journey with this stock began when I was looking to upgrade my trusty Remington 700 BDL. Being a left-handed shooter, I always found the selection of aftermarket stocks somewhat limited, often forcing me to compromise on ergonomics and feel. This stock promised a left-hand specific design combined with the desirable thumbhole feature, piquing my interest and ultimately leading to my purchase.
Unboxing the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks Featherweight Thumbhole Remington 700 BDL Long Action Left Hand Stock Left Hand Action Factory Barrel Channel was a pleasant surprise. The hardwood edgegrain finish was immediately striking, exhibiting a natural beauty and hinting at the quality craftsmanship within. The weight felt balanced, promising comfortable handling without sacrificing the sturdiness required for consistent accuracy.
Compared to other aftermarket stocks I considered, like the Hogue Overmolded stock or the Magpul Hunter 700, the Boyds Hardwood Gunstocks stock offered a unique blend of classic aesthetics and modern ergonomics. The Hogue, while providing a comfortable rubberized grip, lacked the visual appeal I was after. The Magpul, though highly modular, felt too tactical for my taste, leaning towards a more traditional aesthetic that suits my shooting style.
My initial impressions were overwhelmingly positive. I was genuinely excited to see how this stock would transform the feel and performance of my Remington 700 BDL. The promise of a comfortable thumbhole grip and the left-hand specific design had me eagerly anticipating my next range trip.
