Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier Review

Let’s Talk About Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier

For years, I chased the elusive dragon of a perfectly tuned AR-15. One that ran reliably suppressed or unsuppressed, with minimal gas to the face, and a smooth recoil impulse. After countless BCG swaps, buffer changes, and gas block adjustments, I stumbled upon the Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier. This carrier promised a solution to over-gassing, offering four distinct settings to tailor gas flow to your specific needs.

I was drawn to the Bootleg Inc Adjustable Carrier hoping to tame the excessive gas blowback I experienced when running my 11.5″ SBR with a suppressor. Tired of the stinging gas in my eyes and the inconsistent cycling, I was looking for a reliable and easy-to-adjust solution. My initial thoughts were positive; the carrier felt solid in hand, with a clean Lithium Isonite finish and a well-staked gas key.

Before discovering the Bootleg Inc offering, I had considered the adjustable gas keys offered by alternative vendors such as Rubber City Armory or the Gemtech adjustable BCG. Ultimately, the ability to adjust gas settings without removing the BCG from the rifle was a major selling point for the Bootleg Inc design. My initial reaction was a mix of excitement and cautious optimism. Could this simple-looking carrier finally be the key to unlocking the perfect AR-15?

Real-World Testing: Putting Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier to the Test

First Use Experience

My first outing with the Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier was at my local outdoor range. The weather was typical for early spring: a bit chilly and breezy. I installed the carrier in my 11.5″ 5.56 SBR paired with a Surefire SOCOM RC2 suppressor.

I started with the carrier set to the most restrictive suppressor setting. Immediately, the difference was noticeable. The rifle cycled smoothly, with significantly reduced gas to the face, and the recoil felt softer. There were no immediate malfunctions, and the ejection pattern was consistent, landing around the 3 o’clock position.

Extended Use & Reliability

After several months of regular use, the Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier continues to impress. It has held up exceptionally well, showing no signs of excessive wear or tear. Cleaning is straightforward. A simple wipe-down with a CLP-soaked rag keeps it running smoothly.

Compared to my previous experience with standard, non-adjustable carriers, the Bootleg Inc carrier is a game-changer. It delivers consistent, reliable performance across a wide range of ammunition and shooting conditions. It far outperforms the standard options. I now switch it between several different ARs, all with varying barrel lengths and gas systems, and have had great success.
