Let’s Dive into Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife
The Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife is a compact, multi-functional tool designed for everyday carry and light utility tasks. Manufactured by Boker USA, it features a Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade, G10 handle scales, and a built-in glass breaker. I first encountered this knife while searching for a lightweight, versatile tool to add to my EDC (Everyday Carry) rotation.
My primary need was a reliable blade that could handle simple cutting tasks, coupled with a glass breaker for emergency situations. After years of carrying larger, more specialized tools, I wanted something more streamlined and discreet.
Unboxing the Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife, I was immediately impressed by its compact size and solid feel. The black G10 handle provided a secure grip, and the blade opened smoothly, although the nail nick required a bit of practice to master. The build quality appeared excellent, with no noticeable gaps or imperfections.
I considered the Victorinox Huntsman and the Leatherman Skeletool CX. The Victorinox was too bulky for EDC, and the Leatherman felt overkill for my needs. The Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife seemed to strike the perfect balance between functionality and portability.
My initial impression was positive; I was excited to test its performance in real-world situations. It seemed like a well-designed and potentially indispensable addition to my everyday gear.
Real-World Testing: Putting Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife to the Test
First Use Experience
My first test was during a weekend camping trip. I used the Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife for various tasks, from preparing food to cutting rope. It performed well in dry conditions, easily slicing through cardboard boxes and paracord.
I encountered some light rain, and the G10 handle remained grippy even when wet. The blade’s hollow grind made slicing tasks easier, though cleaning the blade after cutting sticky substances required a bit more effort. The slipjoint lock provided adequate security for light tasks, but I wouldn’t rely on it for heavy-duty work.
The glass breaker came in handy when I needed to score a piece of plexiglass for a makeshift repair. It was easy to control and effective at creating a clean break. One initial issue was the pocket clip being a bit tight, making it difficult to quickly deploy the knife.
Extended Use & Reliability
After several months of daily carry, the Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife has proven to be a reliable companion. There are no significant signs of wear and tear on the G10 handle or the stainless-steel blade. The blade has maintained its edge well with only occasional stropping.
Cleaning is straightforward; a quick wipe with a damp cloth usually suffices. I occasionally apply a drop of oil to the blade pivot to ensure smooth operation. Compared to other EDC knives I’ve used, the Boker USA Plus Tech-Tool 1 Folding Blade Knife offers a good balance of utility and ease of maintenance.
It doesn’t outperform dedicated hunting or survival knives in demanding tasks, but for everyday cutting and emergency situations, it’s a practical and dependable tool. The light weight is a huge plus, it has replaced my dedicated EDC folder.
